History

The first settlement on the site of modern Saint-Tropez was founded in the II century BC. e. The city received its modern name in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Torpis (Tropis, Trofim) , who was beheaded in the 60s of the 1st century during the time of Nero during the persecution of Christians in the area of ​​modern Pisa .
