History
In the 1980s and before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the airport successfully served 1,100,000 passengers a year; in 2018, the airport served 770,000 passengers. Thus, the airport is approximately 70% loaded with Soviet capacity. In Soviet times, a thousand and a half team worked at the Voronezh airport. Currently, about four hundred people work at the Voronezh airport: rescuers, firefighters, technical personnel, food and security services .
At the end of 2018, the passenger traffic of the airport amounted to 770 thousand people.
Reconstruction
In 2008, the reconstruction of the airport began. Reconstruction plans included replacing the cover and lengthening the runway to 2600 m (lengthening more than 2600 m is difficult, because the airport borders on the M4 federal highway on one side and the ravine in front of the Voronezh reservoir on the other ), replacing the perimeter fence, and the water drainage systems, updating light-signal equipment, reconstruction of the apron and taxiways, as well as the airport complex [7] . Since 2010, after the completion of the main work on the runway, its technical characteristics make it possible to receive Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft , the carrying capacity of which is close to the domestic Yak-42 operated by the airport even during the USSR. According to the statement of the Prime Minister of Russia V.V. Putin , the Voronezh air hub was included in the program for modernizing the airports of central Russia in 2011-2012 [8] . Reconstruction of the airdrome complex of the second stage is ongoing, which expands its capabilities for receiving and servicing modern types of aircraft of greater passenger capacity and increased comfort. In 2015, the airfield receives Boeing and Airbus aircraft. [9]
In 2016, the next stage of reconstruction was completed at the Voronezh International Airport. By November, at the sites of the updated apron, it became possible to place up to 20 medium and long-haul aircraft. By December, the coating on taxiways RD-A and RD-V was completely replaced. Now at the airport all three taxiways are used. New lighting masts and lighting equipment were installed, the drainage and drainage system and power supply networks were reconstructed. [ten]
