Short Biography
Karl Rechinger studied in Vienna .
He worked in the botanical gardens of Vienna. In 1892-1902 he dealt with the problem of cultivating plant tissues in artificial solutions, including in sucrose solution.
In 1902 - 1922 - museum curator in the Department of Botany of the Vienna Museum of Natural History .
In 1905 he made a great trip to Oceania .
Researcher of the flora of Austria-Hungary , New Guinea , Samoa , Solomon Islands .
Area of botanical interests: mosses , seed plants .
In honor of Karl Rechinger, the Rechinger butterbur ( Petasites × rechingeri Hayek , 1904 ) from the Astrov family , growing in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is named.
The son of Karl Rechinger, Karl Heinz Rechinger (1906-1998), also became a botanist - he is known as a researcher of the flora of the Mediterranean , the Middle East , Iran and Afghanistan ; the standard abbreviated record of his last name in botanical taxa is “Rech.f.”.
