A tree up to 25 meters high with a wide crown. Cirrus leaves , consisting of 4 pairs of oval or ovate-lanceolate thin-skinned leaves.

The flowers are white or yellow, with a tubular cup and whisk , collected in dense panicles up to 7 cm long. The stamens are long, fused at the bottom into a tubule, as in all plants included in the tribe Ingeae .

Fruits - cylindrical beans up to 1 meter long, often bent and twisted, with a longitudinally furrowed surface and velvety pubescence. The peel is hard-skinned, inside there are quite large seeds from round to elliptical in shape, surrounded by a white juicy-spongy fibrous pulp. Seeds begin to germinate when the fruit is still on the tree.

Distribution

The homeland of cream bean is Central and South America . This plant is currently cultivated in Tanzania and less commonly in other tropical countries.

Usage

A fruit pulp having a vanilla flavor and a sweet taste is usually eaten raw. In addition to obtaining edible fruits, the tree is also grown to create artificial shade on coffee plantations.
