Biography

Came from the nobles. He studied at the Shklov Cadet Corps , after which, from 1796, he taught geometry , fortification and artillery at the Moscow Noble University Hostel. In September 1805 he was promoted to master of military sciences at Moscow University and admitted to lecturing there; from August 1808 - adjunct, from December 1826 to June 1832 - extraordinary professor of military sciences. In addition to the Department of Military Sciences, in 1810-1811 he occupied the Department of Pure Mathematics of the Department of Physical and Mathematical Sciences . In addition, since April 1826, he taught at the Moscow Cadet Corps, which he had once graduated from. He also taught at the Moscow Palace Architectural School [1] .

According to the memoirs of A. I. Herzen in the "Past and Thoughts" [2] :

Myagkov read the toughest science in the world - tactics. From the constant handling of heroic objects, Myagkov’s very appearance acquired a combat line: fastened to the throat, in an unbending tie, he commanded his lectures more than he spoke. - Gentlemen! He shouted, “on the field!” About artillery! It didn’t mean: guns were going to the battlefield, but simply that such a title was on margin. What a pity that Nikolai went around the university , if he had seen Myagkov, he would have made him a trustee .
