The Turkish village of Harmanli arose around the beginning of the 16th century. Within the boundaries of the modern city, evidence of this old settlement has not been preserved, but near the outskirts of the city archaeologists discovered artifacts from the Neolithic and Ancient Rome . Around 1510, a large caravanserai was built in Harmanli near the road from Istanbul to Belgrade , connecting Asia with Europe, near which the Turkish population settled. The writer Gencho Stoev, about the location of the city, wrote: “There is no need to travel from Harmanli - the world travels through it.”
