The former Turkish fortress Turtukai , which covered a convenient place for crossing the river.
History
During the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774, Russian troops under the command of General A.V. Suvorov conducted reconnaissance searches twice in the Turtukai area under the command of General A.V. Suvorov : the first — to divert the enemy from the intended crossing point the main forces of the Russian army in the region of Silistria ; 2nd — as an integral part of the offensive of the Russian troops. The fighting was carried out at night against superior enemy forces. Near Turtukay (for the first time after the actions of the troops of General P. A. Rumyantsev near Kolberg in 1761) Suvorov used columns in combination with the loose ranger ranger .
During the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878, the city was liberated from Turkish troops.
In the second Balkan war , on July 14, 1913, Romanian troops launched an offensive in South Dobrudja and occupied Tutrakan, which was incorporated into Romania. October 15, 1915 Bulgaria entered the First World War on the side of the Central Powers. After Romania announced in 1916 that it was joining the Entente, the city became the site of a battle between the main Bulgarian-German forces and the Romanian army .
Subsequently, the city was occupied by Bulgarian troops, but in accordance with the peace treaty between Bulgaria and the Entente, signed on September 29, 1918 in the city of Thessaloniki, the Bulgarian side made an obligation to return the city of Romania (in accordance with the Treaty signed on November 27, 1919, South Dobrogea was fixed beyond Romania).
On September 7, 1940, the Craiova Agreement was signed, according to which Romania returned South Dobrudja (including Tutrakan) to Bulgaria.
On March 1, 1941 , documents were signed in Vienna on the accession of Bulgaria to the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo pact , according to which German troops were introduced into Bulgaria on March 2, 1941 [2] . In early September 1944, the head of the border section in the city of Tutrakan (and at the same time the head of the BKP urban battle group ) Ivan Gaydarov organized an operation during which the border guards and members of the combat group disarm the Hitler unit retreating from Romanian territory, and the Germans seized military equipment , a significant amount of weapons and ammunition [3] .
