Opaka is known for the numerous clashes of the Russian troops of the 13th Army Corps with the Turks in the fall of 1877 during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. . After the loss of Karakhasankioi by Russian troops , the threat of a Turkish breakthrough between Gagovo and Gorsko-Ablanovo appeared . On the evening of August 18, the division of the Ataman Life Guards Regiment was sent to Opaka, and on August 19, three companies of the Nezhinsky 137th Infantry Regiment and two guns. The detachment strengthened at the exit from the gorge to Kara-Lomu and had uninterrupted exchange of fire with the Turks, who occupied the heights of the right bank of Kara-Loma. On August 22, the Nezhinsky 137th Infantry Regiment with the division of the Ataman Life Guards Regiment and 6 guns concentrated around Opaki. The right bank was occupied by part of the Sabita Pasha division. On August 25, the detachment was ordered to retreat to Byala . August 26 Opaka was occupied by the Turks. Following the retreat of Mehmed Ali Pasha for Kara-Lom, the Turkish post was left in Opaka, but on September 28, Opaka was occupied by a hundred Don 8th Cossack regiment . From the middle of October, Opaka, in which the Bulgarians left enormous reserves of grain bread and fodder, became an apple of discord between the forward detachments of the 13th Army Corps and Dr. Salih Pasha, which led to skirmishes of the foraging batches on both sides. At this time, the village of Opaka was engaged in Russian small detachments, under the cover of which stocks were taken out of the village. On November 13, an offensive from the right bank of Kara Loma was discovered against Opaki. From the Turkish division Saliha Pasha were moved against Opaki 2 battalions, 3 squadrons and 2 guns. The enemy, having crossed Kara-Lom, did not move directly to Opak, but sent 2 companies bypassing the left flank of the Russian detachment (1 company and 3 hundred) and 4 companies bypassing the right flank. Before the front lay down 2 companies. The locality itself favored the coverage undertaken by the Turks. Fearing the encirclement, at 9 o'clock in the morning, the head of the Russian detachment, military commander Daniil Dukmasov ordered to retreat to the wooded heights adjacent to Opak from the west and two kilometers from the village. The Turks, having occupied Opaka, did not go further, but at four o'clock in the afternoon, as a result of the unfortunate business at the village of Palamarca , they withdrew. After that, Opaka was occupied by the hundreds of Don 8th Cossack regiment until the Rushuchsky detachment went on the offensive towards Razgrad [2] .
