Biography

Galina Kovaleva was born on March 7, 1932 in the village of Goryachiy Klyuch (now in the Krasnodar Territory , Russia ).

In 1959 she graduated from the Saratov Conservatory named after L.V. Sobinov in the singing class of O. N. Strizhova . During the training, she received a Sobinovsky scholarship. In 1957 , while still a fourth-year student, she participated in concerts of the VI World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow .

Since 1958 - soloist of the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theater .

Since 1960 - soloist of the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater. S. M. Kirov (now the Mariinsky Theater ). In 1961 she made her debut in the role of Rosina in the opera The Barber of Seville by J. Rossini . Later she became famous in such parts of the foreign repertoire as Lucia (“ Lucia di Lammermur ” by G. Donizetti ), Violetta (“ La Traviata ” by J. Verdi ). The Russian repertoire is also close to the singer: in the operas of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov , Martha (The Tsar’s Bride ), Tsarevna-Lebed (The Tale of Tsar Saltan ), Volkhov ( Sadko ), in the operas of M. I. Glinka - Antonida (" Ivan Susanin "), Lyudmila (" Ruslan and Lyudmila ").

She sang in duets with such outstanding singers of her time as Nikolai Giaurov , Georg Ots , Hendrik Krumm , Vladimir Atlantov , Virgilius Noreika , Elena Obraztsova , Irina Bogacheva , etc. She performed as a concert singer.

She toured in Bulgaria , Czechoslovakia , France , Italy , Canada , Poland , East Germany , Japan , USA, Sweden, Great Britain, Latin America [1] .

Since 1970 - Associate Professor of the Leningrad Conservatory (since 1981 - Professor). Famous students - S. A. Yalysheva , Yu. N. Zamyatin .

Member of the CPSU since 1965 .

Bach , F. Liszt , G. Handel , E. Grieg , E. Schausson , C. Dupark , and K. Debussy .

The singer included in her concerts arias and scenes from operas that she could not perform in the theater, for example: arias from the operas of V. A. Mozart (“ All Women Do This ”), G. Donizetti (“ Don Pasquale ”), F. Chilea ( Adriana Lecouvreur ), J. Puccini ( Madame Butterfly ), J. Meyerbeer ( Huguenots ), J. Verdi (The Force of Fate ).

For many years she performed in collaboration with organists. Her regular partner is the Leningrad organist N. I. Oksentyan . In the interpretation of the singer, the music of Italian masters, arias from the cantatas and oratorios of I. S. Bach, G. Handel, vocal compositions by F. Schubert, R. Schumann, F. Liszt sounded to the organ. She also performed “Concert for Voice and Orchestra” by R. M. Glier , major solo parts in “ Requiem ” by J. Verdi, in “The Seasons” by J. Haydn , in the Second Symphony of G. Mahler , in “ Bells ” by S. V. Rachmaninov, in the symphony-cantata of Yu. A. Shaporin “On the Kulikov Field”.
