The village is located 5 km. north of Nova Zagora , 24 km. south of Tvirditsa and 140 km. east of Plovdiv .

Content

Title

According to popular legend, the village got its name back in the 3rd-4th centuries, during the Roman rule . The fortified camp arranged by the Romans was provided with a cohort . The local Thracian community, which provided the Romans with food, was called the “ Cohort, ” and its inhabitants were called the “ Cohorts .” Later, the Slavic tribes adopted the toponym, changing it to the Slavic-Bulgarian way.

According to Bulgarian professor Ivan Duridanov , the name of the village goes back to the word “ trough ”, which denotes a terrain similar to a trough .

Finally, another version says that the locals were " troughs " - manufacturers of troughs .

Political Situation

In the local Korten region, which includes Korten, the position of kmet (village head) is performed by Milen Todorov Koristilov ( Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) ) based on the election results of the Kmesten board.

Interesting Facts

In 1830, immigrants from the village of Corten founded the village of the same name in Bessarabia.
