The city is located 105 km from the regional center - Blagoevgrad and 203 km from the capital - the city of Sofia .
Until 1951, the city bore the name Neurocop ( Greek Νευροκοπι ). The city received its modern name in honor of the Bulgarian revolutionary Gotse Delchev .
