History

Trolleybus traffic in Krivoy Rog was started on December 25, 1957, when traffic along the route “Kirov-Prudy Mine” [1] was opened (according to other sources, the route “Peace Square - Pioneer” [2] is 24.4 kilometers long). At the time of the opening, the rolling stock was 15 MTB-82 and MTB-82D type trolleybuses , which employed 30 drivers. The first routes connected the city center with the mines of the northern part of the city and had a total length of 49 kilometers, served by 28 trolleybuses [3] .

In 1959, the Rokovataya trolleybus depot was built, designed for 50 units of rolling stock. In 1960, a new route was opened, “44th Quarter - CGOK”.

In 1969, there were 12 trolleybus lines with a total length of 176 kilometers. The rolling stock consisted of 222 trolleybuses, which employed 323 drivers.

In 1971, a trolleybus depot No. 2 was opened for 100 units of rolling stock.

In 1977, 212 trolleybuses operated on the city's routes.

In 1986, there were 15 trolleybus routes with a total length of 426 kilometers. The mobile fleet was 108 units with 208 drivers. In the 1990s, the number of routes and their length were preserved, but the rolling fleet was reduced to 80-85 units [4] .

In 2001, there were 78 trolleybuses and 131 drivers.

For 2005, there were 22 trolleybus routes.

In mid-2016, there was a threat of disconnecting the utility company from electricity supplies due to arising debt and the inability to eliminate it before DTEK Dneprooblenergo [5] .

Since the beginning of 2017, five trolleybuses with a diesel generator set, manufactured at the municipal enterprise City Trolleybus, have entered the city routes. Hybrid trolleybuses operate on the route connecting Vostochny-1, 2, 3 microdistricts with the city center and Liberation Square [6] .

On September 4–7, 2017, trolleybus No. 656 YuMZ T2 with a hybrid installation made a run of 1200 kilometers without a contact network along the Krivoy Rog – Zhytomyr – Krivoy Rog route [7] [8] .

Feature

The operating and serving organization is the municipal enterprise City Trolleybus [9] .

In 1969, the city trolleybus transported 45 million people [4] . In 2011, 27 107 thousand people were transported by city trolleybuses, which is 25.6% more than in 2010, when 21 591 thousand passengers were transported [10] .
