History
The abbreviation CFR (CFR) stands for Caile Ferate Romane and is translated as Romanian railways . In Romania, the club from Cluj-Napoca is not considered a grandee: throughout the centuries-old history (the centenary anniversary was solemnly celebrated in 2007 ), it constantly balanced between various divisions, having accumulated a total of only 13 seasons in the elite [2] . At the turn of the century, βClujβ stagnated in the third league, but then a dizzying breakthrough occurred: in 2008, CFR Cluj became the first Romanian champion in football and the first team not from Bucharest , which won this title since 1991, for the first time in its history. In the fall of 2008, the CFR, led by Italian coach Maurizio Trombetta, made his debut in the Champions League with a victory over Roma , and then sensationally defended a draw in the match against Chelsea . In 2010, CFR Cluj repeated the achievement two years ago and again became the champion of Romania in football, and also participated in the Champions League starting from the group stage.
On October 19, 2010, in a match against Bayern Munich , which ended with a victory for the Germans with a score of 3: 2, the club's players scored 4 goals out of 5, 2 of them were goals against Bayern and 2 own goals - Cadu scored an own goal by 32 minute of the match and Christian Panin on the 37th [3] .
In the 2011/12 season , the CFR won the Romanian Championship for the third time.
In the season 2017/18, the SFR after six years again became the champion of Romania.
On July 14, 2018, the CFR for the 3rd time won the Roman Super Cup, beating 1: 0 at Craiova University .
In the 2018/19 season, the CFR won the Romanian Championship for the fifth time.
