Biography
Dmitry Ignatiev was born on April 13, 1771 in a noble family .
In October 1795, he was registered as a lieutenant in the Preobrazhensky regiment , and in December 1797 he left the service with the rank of guard of the ensign [2] . Until 1806 he did not serve, devoting this time to studies, and in October 1806 he again decided on military service with the same rank of ensign [3] .
In February 1807, the regiment was transferred by the cornet to the Hussar Life Guards Regiment and with it took part in a number of battles, in particular in the battles of Gutstadt, near Heilsberg and the battle near Friedland [3] .
Since the summer of 1808, Ignatiev participated in the Swedish war, made the transition through the Gulf of Bothnia to the Aland Islands [3] .
At the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, Ignatiev was an adjutant in the army of Count Wittgenstein under the Commander-in-Chief, all the time of the retreat was in the rearguard, and during the offensive he was at the forefront; distinguished by outstanding courage, he performed many difficult and dangerous assignments, passing the orders of the commander in chief and for the distinction received the Order of Vladimir 4 degrees.
For courage in the battle of Polotsk , Ignatiev was awarded the Order of St. George the 4th class on September 4, 1812 ,
| in retaliation for the zealous service and distinction rendered in the battle against the French troops at Polotsk on August 5 and 6, where, as adjutant to the cavalry general, Count Wittgenstein , he executed all the assignments that were done with the utmost agility and excellent courage in the most dangerous places than he had contributed much to keep the enemy and to success in victory |
and the rank of colonel.
He was constantly with Count Wittgenstein during the trip abroad ; after the battle of the peoples he was promoted to major general [3] .
May 13, 1822 Ignatiev due to illness was dismissed with a uniform and pension.
Dmitry Lvovich Ignatiev died July 15, 1833 in the village of Bogoroditskoye being the Tula provincial leader of the nobility [3] .
