Regulation
Echer has a Slovenian name: Ečer, a Slovenian national minority also lives in it. It is located south of Budapest , near the Budapest Ferihegy International Airport . Neighboring settlements are Maglod , Vechesh , Demre and Ulle . The M0 motorway passes near the village. The village is located on the railway line 120a (Budapest - Uysas - Solnek).
History
The first written mention of Echer appeared on December 15, 1315 , despite the fact that it existed since 896, when the Hungarians arrived in their current lands. According to legend, the name of the village was invented by the great prince of the Hungarian tribes Arpad . When he asked about the name of the village in which he stopped to rest a bit, local people could not answer him, so Arpad said to them: name the village after this oak (in the lane in Hungarian cser ).
During the Turkish rule ( 1526 - 1686 ), the village died out, mainly after the siege of Buda , which was nearby. The first inhabitants returned back only in 1699 . During the " Rakoczi War of Independence" ( 1703 - 1711 ) 11 soldiers fought from Echer.
Attractions
The only attraction in the village is the Roman Catholic Church, founded in 1740 .
The village is known all over the world thanks to the folk dance "Wedding in Echera" ( Ecseri lakodalmas ).
