Biography
Danny Blind is a well-known Dutch defender who won three European cups in Ajax : the UEFA Cup winners' cup in 1987, the UEFA Cup in 1992, the 1995 Champions League . He scored the decisive goal in the penalty shootout for the Intercontinental Cup against Brazilian Gremio .
Blind was the head coach at Ajax from March 14, 2005 (replacing Ronald Cuman ) until May 10, 2006. For 422 days of coaching, Blind led Ajax to victory in the Netherlands Cup and Super Cup .
In December 2006, Blind had an accident, crashed into a stopped car of a 48-year-old woman who was carrying a 2-year-old child, but he was not injured. Blind was prosecuted three times for driving while intoxicated.
In 2007, Danny became technical director at his first club, Sparta Rotterdam. In the summer of 2008, he returned to Ajax as a director.
Since 2012, is included in the coaching staff of the Netherlands national team as an assistant to the head coaches of the national team - Louis van Gala [2] (2012–2014) and Guus Hiddink (2014–2015).
On July 1, 2015, the 53-year-old Blind replaced Guus Hiddink as the coach of the Dutch team. Blind's contract, which was Hiddink's assistant, is valid until August 1, 2018.
On March 26, 2017, the country's Football Federation decided to terminate the contract with a 55-year-old specialist after losing to Bulgaria in the qualification of the 2018 World Cup. [3]
The Dutchmen unsuccessfully started the qualifying round, gaining 7 points in 5 matches. After 5 rounds, the team was in 4th place in the table, behind the leading France by 6 points.
Blind's son, Daley , currently stands for Ajax in Amsterdam and is also part of the Netherlands national team.
