Biography
Steven Hillenberg worked as a marine biologist from 1984 to 1987 . In 1987, he decided to seek success in animation , his second hobby. He made several short films, two of which (“The Green Beret” and “Wormholes”) became popular and received various awards at several film festivals.
Joe Murray, creator of Rocko's Modern Life , met by Hillenberg at an animated festival, asked him if he would direct the show. Hillenberg agreed, becoming a screenwriter, producer, storyboard director, and creative director. In 1998, Hillenberg transferred the rights to show the first Help Wanted episode to Nickelodeon .
The main character was first called SpongeBoy , but since this name was copyrighted, Stephen replaced him with SpongeBob. Channel executives buy the animated series, and it starts showing in July 1999 .
Hillenberg resigned after making the film . But at the same time, he did not leave the series, but became an executive producer .
Starting from the second film and the middle of the ninth season, Hillenberg was more involved in the creative process of creating further series [7] .
