Sergei Ivanovich Smirnov (born 1954 , Leningrad ) is a Soviet and Russian artist . Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2002). [1] Graduated from the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov , currently teaches painting and composition at this institute.

Creative activity
In the work of Sergei Smirnov there are elements of romanticism , historicism and academism . The main themes of the artist's works are city landscapes of Moscow , Russian holidays and life of the beginning of the XX century , landscapes of the Moscow region and the Russian north.
It is a member of the Russian World Association of Artists, which unites modern representatives of the classical direction of Russian painting, continuing and developing the traditions of V. I. Surikov , V. M. Vasnetsov , A. A. Ivanov .
Exhibitions of the creative association "Russian World" were held in Moscow 2002 - 2004 , Munich 2006 , Vatican 2007 .
