Content
Club career
Melberg began playing in the local Gulspong team, from where he was invited to the Degerfors club of the top division. After the departure of Degerfors from the top division, Melberg moved to the AIK .
A confident game in the Swedish league was followed by an invitation to the Spanish Example, to the club Racing ( Santander ), where he immediately became the main player.
Melberg was interested in Barcelona and Valencia , but he preferred to move to Aston Villa . In the Birmingham club, he became the captain of the team and was them for 3 years. In the 2002/2003 season, he played without replacement all 38 matches of Aston Villa in the Premier League [1] . In the last season, he was transferred from the usual position of the central defender to the right flank.
In January 2008, he signed a preliminary 3-year contract with Juventus . Melberg joined the Turin club after the 2007/08 season according to the Bosman rule (free). As part of Juventus, he first played in the Champions League , played in group stage matches and the 1/8 finals of this tournament [1] .
In June 2009 he transferred to Olympiacos , the contract is designed for 3 years, the transfer amount was 2.5 million euros [2] .
In August 2012, he signed a one-year agreement with the Spanish “ Villarreal ” and helped the team return to the “ example ”.

Melberg took part in 4 consecutive final tournaments of the European Championships ( 2000 , 2004 , 2008 and 2012 ), as well as in the 2002 and 2006 World Championships. In September 2006, before the match with Liechtenstein, he was expelled from the national team along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Christian Wilhelmsson , because they did not return to the national team base until 24 o’clock in the evening, but a month later they were returned to the national team.
In the qualifying tournament of the 2010 World Cup, he scored 3 goals and became the top scorer of the Swedish national team [8] .

Melberg and his girlfriend Carolina Kiel have two children - Saga (2002) and Jon (2006) [9] .
