Club career

Melberg began playing in the local Gulspong team, from where he was invited to the Degerfors club of the top division. After the departure of Degerfors from the top division, Melberg moved to the AIK .

A confident game in the Swedish league was followed by an invitation to the Spanish Example, to the club Racing ( Santander ), where he immediately became the main player.

Melberg was interested in Barcelona and Valencia , but he preferred to move to Aston Villa . In the Birmingham club, he became the captain of the team and was them for 3 years. In the 2002/2003 season, he played without replacement all 38 matches of Aston Villa in the Premier League [1] . In the last season, he was transferred from the usual position of the central defender to the right flank.

In January 2008, he signed a preliminary 3-year contract with Juventus . Melberg joined the Turin club after the 2007/08 season according to the Bosman rule (free). As part of Juventus, he first played in the Champions League , played in group stage matches and the 1/8 finals of this tournament [1] .
