Biography

Birth and first years of life

Mother Ksenia Fedorovna
and father Bruno Arturovich
I also remember when dad came from the rehearsal, I would go to bed during the day. For him, daytime sleep was like “ Our Father ”, in order to create an illusion of a new day for himself after the morning rehearsal before the evening performance. Dad and I passed on this need. Then one day he lay down and left me completely alone - my grandmother was doing something, my mother went to work. I walked around for a long time in circles, not letting me fall asleep. And when he finally fell asleep, she jabbed a pencil into his eye. I wanted to wake him up in such a sadistic way. It was behind this turn and put in the corner for the stove. I remember it was yesterday.
- Alice Freindlich [4]

The mother of the future actress, Ksenia Fedorovna Freindlikh (nee Fedorova; died in 1971 [5] ), lived in Pskov in her youth, where she participated in amateur performances [6] . Soon, she moved to Leningrad , where she met German-born actor Bruno Freindlich (1909–2002) at dramatic courses of the Theater of Working Youth [6] . His mother was a German Charlotte Friedrichovna Seitz, father - Arthur I. Freindlich [5] . Both Zeits and Freindlikh finally moved to Russia from Germany in the 18th century , creating dynasties of glassblowers [5] . The great-great-great-grandfather of the mother’s actress was from Mecklenburg-Schwerin [7] .

Little alice

Arthur Freindlich tried to continue the family business, but his career as a glass master did not take place - his second son, brother Bruno, had extremely weak lungs [5] . Soon he got a job at the Weiss shoe store, which then supplied the shoes to the Imperial Court [5] . Having worked there for a short time, he decided to start his own business: he bought the necessary equipment, rented a room near the Moika and ordered the sign “Freundlich's elegant shoes” [5] . His plans did not come true: in 1917, Arthur Freindlich died suddenly [5] .

December 8, 1934 , in Leningrad , in a house on St. Isaac's Square , a girl Alice was born [4] . As Freundlich later admitted, the mother wanted her daughter to have a different name - Natasha [8] . The father and the grandmother insisted on “Alice”, who declared that “Natalya Brunovna Freindlich” was a strange mess [8] . In the column "nationality", according to the mother, stood the "Russian" [7] . Shortly after the birth of the girl, the family moved into a communal apartment at 1/64, in Grivtsova Lane [4] , where the windows overlooked St. Isaac’s Cathedral , and the Bronze Horseman monument was located near the house [4] .

Even in childhood, Alice began to show artistic abilities [9] . At the age of three she came to graduation performances of the sister of the mother and her husband, who then graduated from the conservatory [9] . A few days after that, the girl sang melodies from the opera [9] and played the theater with herself, secretly putting adults on her mother's dresses [9] .

Shortly before the start of the war, Alice's parents broke up [10] . The father with the actors of his theater went on tour to Tashkent , and the girl remained to live with her mother [10] . Bruno Freindlich left Leningrad even before the Germans began to be evicted from Leningrad. According to the memoirs of Alice Freundlich, “grandmother, aunt, my cousins and sisters — they all had to leave Leningrad” [9] ; “Dad's brother and his wife were arrested — much later we learned that they had been shot” [9] .

Great Patriotic War and Siege of Leningrad

Schoolgirl

In 1941, Alice went to the first class of school No. 239 (now the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239) [11] . The institution was located right in the center of the city - the area that was subjected to the most massive shelling [11] . A few days later, the blockade of Leningrad began [11] . Because of the difficult conditions of study as such, it was not: the teacher spoke not about the lesson, but about everything that was necessary for the blockade [11] . Later, Alisa Brunovna recalled:

The main impression of my childhood is war, blockade. I remember well how tensely I looked at my watch: when will the arrow finally reach the desired division and it will be possible to eat a tiny slice from the rations of bread? Such a tough regime gave us a grandmother - and therefore we survived. Yes, blockaders were very focused on themselves, and this contemplativeness of their inner state gave us the opportunity, firstly, to survive, and secondly, to remember everything, everything. Maybe someday I will write about it ... Together with the difficult, very scary, my childhood impressions from those days left a keen sense that we, the blockaders, had a special need for a smile - apparently, that was what some kind of psychotherapy, some kind of physical protection ... [11]

Only a grandmother helped Alice survive in those times, or rather, her punctuality: she betrayed a very small part of the loaf of bread by the hour, and hid the rest [11] . The health of the girl and her mother was extremely weak and unstable not only physically, but also psychologically: a child with German roots felt terrible in the company of those who despised Germans [11] .

During the war, Ksenia Fedorovna worked as an accountant, and after it ended she moved with her daughter to Tallinn for three years [11] .

Later, in 2014, Alisa Freindlich played one of the main roles in the mini-series " Martha 's Line ", dedicated to the events of besieged Leningrad.

Post-war childhood and admission to college

In the capital of Estonia, Alisa studied in the third, fourth and fifth grades of secondary school [12] . She failed to finish her studies here - in 1948, she and her mother returned to Leningrad, where the girl returned to school No. 239 [12] . Bruno Freindlich returned to the city, bringing his new family with him - his wife and daughter Irina [6] . Ksenia Feodorovna was not against Alice’s meetings with her father, but his new spouse strongly opposed this [6] . And for many years Irina did not even know about the existence of her half-sister [6] .

At school number 239, Alice got into the theater group, which was led by Maria Prizhenan-Sokolova , a famous Soviet actress [4] . Maria Alexandrovna immediately liked the girl, she was able to see in her future "star" [12] . Alice spent all her free time at the teacher. It was Maria Alexandrovna who taught Freundlich the basics of acting [12] .

After graduating from school in 1953, Alice Freundlich already knew exactly what would become an actress, but could not decide which one: musical or dramatic [8] . The choice in favor of the second option was helped by the father, who dissuaded Alice from the operatic stage: “You're a crumb, but the texture is needed there” [8] , although the girl had a strong voice - high mezzo-soprano .

Soon Alice submitted documents to the Leningrad Theater Institute named after A.N. Ostrovsky [4] . Maria Prizvan-Sokolova and her husband Pavel Weisbrom helped her to enter , every evening they were expecting a girl at home [12] . Alice successfully passed the entrance exams, reading an excerpt from Nikolai Gogol 's poem Dead Souls and performing the song Do not scold me, dear. [12] Commission Freundlich liked the speech, and in 1953 Alice was accepted to the Boris Zona course [4] .

Graduation from the institute, first film roles and work in the Komissarzhevskaya Theater

Characteristic issued to Alice Freindlich before graduation

Before Freundlich Zon brought up many recognized masters of Soviet theater and cinema. Among them: Boris Blinov , Pavel Kadochnikov , Nikolai Trofimov , Vladislav Andrushkevich , Alexander Belinsky , Igor Vladimirov , Sergei Hippius , David Karasik , Stanislav Klitin , Zinovy Korogodsky , Oscar Remez , Emma Popova , Zinaida Charcot and many others. During her studies at the institute, Freundlich received many thanks and awards, including certificates for exemplary studies [12] . But the training was not cloudless. There was even a question of deduction. Zon stood up: "If someone dares to touch my students - I immediately leave the institute." Alisa Brunovna gratefully recalls her main teacher: “He let me out as a travesty and sharply character actress. But it never even occurred to him that I could play Juliet, that I could be entrusted with dramatic or lyrical-dramatic roles ” [13] .

In 1955, the girl performed episodic roles in the films “The Unfinished Tale ” and “ Talents and Fans ” [4] . At the same time, she first married her “student love”, one of her classmates, Vladimir Karasev [4] . The marriage did not last long - after the graduation from the institute, the couple broke up [4] .

Just before the release, Boris Zon presented his photo to Alice Brunovna, writing on the backside: “Sweet Alice! You do not dare to leave in vain any of your inclinations: to play, read, sing, dance. Only in this case you will be in time everywhere and will be happy ” [4] . He also signed a testimonial issued to the actress, summing up that Freundlich was recommended for leading work in drama theaters of regional and republican significance (see photo). The graduation performance “The Moral of Mrs. Dulskaya”, in which Freundlich played the main role, helped her get into the troupe of the Leningrad Drama Theater named after V. F. Komissarzhevskaya [6] . It was 1957 [12] .

Later Freundlich said: “I remember the work in the Komissarzhevskaya theater with great pleasure. I went there a good school, very good. I was not there premiers. There was a brilliant actress Emma Popova . And I got only those roles that Popova refused (or, as they say in the theater, who fell off Popova’s table). I was sobbing and worried that I couldn’t play Dorothy in E. Hemingway’s “Fifth Column” [14] . However, even before such roles, Alisa Brunovna began with the smallest - reincarnation into boys and hooligans [15] .

In total, while working in the theater, Freundlich played more than ten roles; her debut film dates back to this time - works in the films “ The City Lights Lights ” and “ The Tale of the Newlyweds ”. In the late 1950s, she met theater director Igor Vladimirov , who was invited to stage the play “Time to Love” at the VF Komissarzhevskaya Theater [5] . This meeting was remembered by Alice Brunovna, and in 1961, when Vladimirov headed the Leningrad Lensovet Academic Theater , she moved there [4] .

Theater them. Lensoveta and creative union with Igor Vladimirov

At the same time, Freundlich first met filmmaker Eldar Ryazanov , who was preparing for the shooting of the comedy Hussar Ballad [16] . According to Ryazanov, Freundlich played samples just brilliantly, but the actress was extremely feminine, and the heroine of the film, as you know, portrayed a man [16] . As a result, Larisa Golubkina [16] was approved for the role.

Igor Petrovich was sixteen years older than me, and I became his third wife. When we met, I was a completely blank sheet in all life relationships. As an actress, already formed, played a lot, if I had been an inconspicuous speck, he would not have called me to the theater. He was very clever, with an amazing sense of humor. It was interesting to me - I greedily, like a sponge, absorbed everything that he knew, was able, could, than was rich. And I was not afraid to marry him, because everything in him was interesting to me, I had something to learn from him.
- Alice Freindlich [4]

In the Theater. Lensoveta, on the contrary, Igor Vladimirov, who, as critics pointed out, managed to “catch the specifics of Freundlich's talent” [4] , not only staged performances for her, but in choosing the repertoire as a whole was guided by the individuality of his main actress (in the 60s these were mostly melodramas) [17] . In 1979, Alisa Freindlich said: “Igor Petrovich Vladimirov is my real teacher in art, caring and strict teacher, my faithful friend. I owe all my achievements to the theater only to him. I can not imagine the actress Freundlich without director Vladimirov. I'm even scared to think about it. Will I be able to work in another theater now? I do not know " [14] . Attachment to Vladimirov, who was 16 years older than her, resulted in Freundlich’s second marriage — in the early 1960s, she married him [4] .

This period became the peak of Alice Freindlich's theatrical career [6] . She became the first lady of the theater, as later wrote the newspaper, and played in almost all the performances of his repertoire [6] . One of the most famous and successful roles of that time was the Kid from “The Kid and Carlson ”. Both adults and children went to this performance with the same pleasure [18] .

In the cinema, meanwhile, Alisa Brunovna was almost not invited [6] . Separately, one can only mention one role of the 1960s - “ The adventures of a dentist ” (1965), the comedy of Elem Klimov , on the set of which Freundlich first encountered an actor Andrey Myagkov . Later they will play together in the “ Office Romance ” [4] . In 1967, Alice Brunovna again had to cross with Eldar Ryazanov, who then wrote the film story “Zigzag of Luck” [16] . The role of Alevtina was written specifically for Alice Freindlich [16] . At this time, the successful role of the pregnancy prevented the actress [16] .

Birth of the daughter and the first major film roles

The following year, Alisa Freindlich had a daughter, Barbara [5] . More than anyone else, the actress’s mother, Ksenia Fyodorovna, dreamed of the birth of a girl. [5] A month before the birth, Freundlich and his mother went to the WTO rest home in the village of Komarovo [5] . On the night of March 13, Alisa Brunovna started fighting, she reported this to her mother, and she called two “ambulances”: one to her daughter, the second to herself [5] . Ksenia Fyodorovna saw her granddaughter only after two months - as soon as she left the hospital [5] .

In 1971, Ksenia Fyodorovna was no more [5] . She was dying in front of a three-year-old granddaughter, suffering a sudden stroke [5] . Freundlich and Vladimirov were not at home; they went to a rehearsal [5] . At dinner, the woman suddenly fell [5] . The girl tried to regain her consciousness, but everything was useless [5] . Alisa Brunovna was also detained in the theater, there was no one to come to the aid of Ksenia Fedorovna [5] . Finally, when she returned home, Freindlich saw a terrible picture: the mother was lying on the floor, her own daughter was on her (Barbara cried so much that she fell asleep right on her grandmother), and scattered toys around [5] . A week later, Ksenia Fedorovna died without regaining consciousness [5] .

After this tragic accident, Freundlich continued to play in the theater and cinema [6] . In 1974, Anatoly Solonitsyn , Alice Brunovna’s colleague in the play “Warsaw Melody”, informed her that Andrei Tarkovsky himself would be present at the evening production [19] . After the performance Solonitsyn gave Freindlich a note from Tarkovsky, beginning with the words: “Mrs. Freindlich! ..” [19] . In it, the director wrote that he liked the performance, and he invites the actress to play a small role in his new film [19] . Without any hesitation, Freundlich agreed and continued to question Solonitsyn about the upcoming film, which he denied, stating that he himself did not know anything [19] . This time Alice Brunovna did not succeed in playing Tarkovsky - she simply could not come to the shooting [19] .

It is noteworthy that in that year Alice Freindlich again failed to play with Eldar Ryazanov in the new comedy “ Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath! " [16] . The background to this was as follows: Ryazanov and Emil Braginsky wrote the play of the same name and gave it to the Lensovet Theater with the prerequisite that the main role, Nadia Sheveleva , will be performed by the leading actress of the theater Alisa Freindlich [16] . After a while, the authors were invited to the premiere [16] . In a telephone conversation, Braginsky inquired about how Freundlich played in the production, to which he was answered: “And she doesn’t play at all in your play!” [16] After this, Ryazanov did not go to the premiere, and Freindlich no longer could, since Barbara Brylska had already been approved [16] .

Despite this, in 1974 three films appeared with the participation of Alice Freindlich: Yevgeny Hrynyuk 's melodrama “ Anna and Commander ” (which is called the first big project Freindlikh [4] ), Leonid Quinihidze ’s musical comedy “The Straw Hat ” and the historical drama of Elem Klimov “ Agony .

" Office Romance "

The image of the "gray mouse" Lyudmila Kalugina brought Alice Freindlich all-Union popularity and fame

Having completed “The Irony of Fate”, Eldar Ryazanov asked himself the question: “What else to shoot next?” [16] Suddenly, he recalled the play “ Colleagues ”, written by him together with Braginsky six years ago [16] . At first, the play was successful in theaters: it was set up by 134 theaters in various cities of the USSR [16] . Ryazanov, thinking that the main role, Lyudmila Prokofyevna Kalugin , was to be performed by Alice Freundlich this time, sent her a play and an offer to play in his film [16] . Freundlich agreed, and the director proceeded to other aspects of the upcoming film. [16]

The key role in the film was to be the role of Kalugin [16] . The working title of the tape at first was even The Tale of the Leading Cinderella [16] . Noting that Freundlich in the theater is revealed more than in the cinema, Ryazanov began to think about how not to muffle her talent [16] . In the story, Lyudmila Kalugina was supposed to be a nondescript "gray mouse" [16] . Such Freundlich was made by the make-up artists and costume designer, who was unable to find the right costume for the shootings [16] . The actress herself found him, “izlazyv” the entire dressing room of Mosfilm [20] . Freindlich took the signature walk of her heroine from the really existing superiors of that time [4] .

The film was a huge success. After the premiere, Freundlich even received letters with the following content: “After your film, we immediately went to the hairdresser’s, made ourselves the same hairstyle, sewed the same dress and generally cleaned ourselves” [4] . To this day, the role of Kalugina remains the most famous in Alice Brunovna’s career, and the actress considers her one of the most beloved ones [4] . The picture was also appreciated in the highest strata of the state: all of its creators, except for Alice Freundlich, were awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR [4] . Freundlich herself, when asked whether it was insulting to her that she did not receive the prize, answered this way: “No, I was so used to some restrictions that were adopted by the Council of Deputies. It was even funny to me ” [8] .

For the role of Ludmila Kalugina Prokofievna Alisa Freindlich was recognized as the best actress of the year according to the magazine Soviet Screen . It is noteworthy that during the creation of the tape Alisa Brunovna showed not only acting skills, but also musical ones: two songs performed by her - “Nature has no bad weather” and “My soul does not have peace” - immediately became hits and repeatedly performed on the radio and television [4] .

In 2011, a tape remake appeared on the cinema screens - “ Office Romance. Our time ”, where the role of Lyudmila Kalugina was performed by a young actress Svetlana Khodchenkova [21] . Alisa Brunovna said that she didn’t watch the film and wouldn’t watch it, since she “is very difficult to accept and put up with some new discoveries in this story” [21] .

Divorce from husband and transition to BDT

After the triumph of The Office Romance, Alisa Brunovna played one of the best film roles, as critics noted [4] . This was Queen Anne in the film adaptation of the novel “The Three Musketeers ” by Alexander Dumas [4] . Freundlich said: “I have never seen a living queen, except on TV or in the press. The director and I wanted to make an absolutely earthly woman, past whom nothing had passed - neither love, nor jealousy, nor fear, nor the triumph of victory. It is characterized by all emotions and all human weaknesses. Yes, the queen! But behind the external ethical grid lies a living person who feels the same feelings as any other ” [4] . According to the director of the film George Yungvald-Khilkevich , Alice Brunovna refused to play the queen until she was explained why Anna was not afraid to donate such a thing as suspensions [22] . A few years before his divorce from Igor Vladimirov, Freundlich reunited with him in the melodrama Old Fashioned Comedy [6] . Alisa Brunovna performed several songs both in “The Three Musketeers” and in “The Old-Fashioned Comedy”. [6]

For fans of the movie "not for everyone," Freundlich revealed in the next project - " Stalker " by Andrei Tarkovsky [19] . Anatoly Solonitsyn again reported about the trial [19] . The role was small, several scenes at the very beginning of the film and a monologue at the end [19] . The monologue, as Freundlich later admitted, was completely improvised [19] . On the set there was such an atmosphere that even people communicated with each other in a half-whisper [19] . In one of the scenes where Stalker's wife , which Freundlich plays, throws a tantrum over the fact that her husband leaves for the Zone again, the actress has overdone so much that she has almost lost consciousness due to repeated duplications [19] . Later, Alisa Brunovna said that with the coherence of the film crew, as in Tarkovsky, she faced only when she worked for Ryazanov [19] .

In 1981, several key events in the life of Alice Freundlich occurred [4] . The actress was awarded the title " People's Artist of the USSR ", and soon after that she broke up with her husband, Igor Vladimirov [4] . The reason for this Freundlich called Vladimirov’s great love for women and his addiction to alcohol [4] . According to other sources, Vladimirov filed for divorce after reading an article in a newspaper titled “One Actress’s Theater” [23] . There was also an opinion that the changed repertoire of the theater and the dominance of “loud and noisy” plays did not correspond to the talent of Alice Brunovna, who most convincingly performed chamber roles. After two more years of working with her former husband, in 1983, Alisa Brunovna left the Lensovet Theater troupe and moved to the Leningrad Academic Bolshoi Drama Theater named after M. Gorky [4] .

BDT and stagnation in cinema

Shortly before moving to the new theater, Alisa Freindlich met a young artist, Yuri Solovyov [4] , who at the time was an actor in the Lensovet theater. However, his main vocation was paintings - Nightingale was a self-taught artist [24] . Between them, the romance began quickly enough, and Freundlich married for the third time [24] .

In addition to working in the theater, the actress continued to play fruitfully in the multi-genre film: both in dramas (“ Dangerous age ”, “ Success ”) and melodramas (“ Weekdays and holidays of Seraphim Glukina ”, for the role in which Freindlich lost 7 kilograms [ 25] ) [6] . However, the most successful role of Freindlich in the cinema of the 1980s was the role of Kharita Ignatievna Ogudalova in the film adaptation of the play “The No-Wow ” by Alexander Ostrovsky . Freundlich happily agreed to the role of Ryazanov, but did not see the artistic council in the role of Ogudalova Alisa Freindlich [6] . Ryazanov saved the situation and insisted on being an actress [6] .

In 1990, Alisa Brunovna divorced her third husband [26] . Freundlich herself explained the reason for the divorce as follows: “Since Yuri did not finish anything, he had a lot of problems, although he is a very talented person. And the fact that I always had everything in order, but he always had not in order, had a great effect on our relations. When we realized that there were more stresses than we were able to withstand the body, we very amicably parted ways ... " [4] . After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Freundlich was almost not invited to the cinema [6] . In 1992 and 1993, she returned to the role of Queen Anne in the continuation of the “Three Musketeers”, but the sequels did not have enough success [6] . Separately, we can note the role of the writer Irina Dmitrievna in Valery Todorovsky ’s film “ Moscow Nights ”, which brought Freindlich the first statuette of the “ Nika ” award for best supporting actress [6] .

Modern Period

In 1999, Igor Vladimirov, the second husband of Alisa Freindlich, died after a long illness, and three years later the father of the actress Bruno Arturovich was not [27] [28] .

“ On Upper Maslovka ” was the title of the 2004 tape, in which Alisa Brunovna appeared after a 10-year absence from the cinema. Her partner on the set was a young actor Yevgeny Mironov [29] . Character Freundlich - 87-year-old sculptor Anna Borisovna , living out her life in an old workshop [29] .

Despite the ambiguous perception of the film by film critics, Alice Freindlich's acting game was highly appreciated by journalists and analysts. Ekaterina Tarkhanova, a film.ru website reviewer, noted that Freindlich “perfectly flawlessly does the“ old woman etude ”: plastically, mimic, intonation” [29] . Igor Mikhailov from kino.ru expressed his opinion as follows:

She plays the impossibility of walking, breathing, sometimes talking. In the last frame she plays a transition to death. But the key words in the words "woman for ninety" - WOMAN. She plays the ability to love, fascinate, despise, forgive, TRYING TO HELP A MAN TO BE A MAN ... Always, under any trials and circumstances. And the viewer lives with Alice, loves with Alice, laughs with Alice, and dies with Alice. [thirty]

For such a reincarnation, Alice Freundlich won the second Nika Prize for Best Actress [31] .

Freundlich continues to act in films and play in his own theater. Of the latest projects with the participation of the actress, “ One and a half rooms, or the Sentimental Journey to the Motherland ” stands out - the film that won the Nika Prize ceremony [32] . Freundlich got an unusual role - the mother of the poet Joseph Brodsky . According to the actress herself, she was not acquainted with Brodsky, but she loves his poems very much [33] .

In April 2019, Freundlich played the main role in the premiere of the play “Excitement” based on the play by Ivan Vyrypayev , which the playwright wrote specifically for the actress. With the new role, the artist celebrated the 35th anniversary of her work in the BDT [34] .

Personal Life

Alisa Freindlich married three times:

  • for fellow student Vladimir Karasev (1956-1957);
  • for theater director and actor Igor Vladimirov (early 1960s - 1981);
  • for actor and artist Yuri Solovey (early 1980s - 1990).

In the second marriage, March 13, 1968, daughter Barbara was born. Her nanny, also Barbara, who had to part with her alcoholism, was caring for her up to 10 years. Due to employment, parents could not pay much attention to the child, and Barbara was lagging behind in studies in most subjects. In childhood, Barbara was friends with her half-brother (Vladimirov’s son from Zinaida Sharko’s actress) Ivan [5] .

After his divorce from Freindlich, Vladimirov left his family apartment, while he himself lived in a hotel for some time [5] . When Varvara was a teenager, Alisa Brunovna married Yuri Nightingale [5] . After parting with him, Freundlich went to the “high chiefs” to ask for an apartment for him, because he had no place to live [5] . Shortly after breaking up with Freindlich, Nightingale married a colleague in the Lensovet Theater, Rimma Shibayeva, and moved first to Israel and then to Germany [24] .

Varvara graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography , starred in several full-length films. Currently [ clarify ] plays in two performances with his mother: “Summer of one year” and “Lessons of tango and love” [33] . Vladimirova was married to politician Sergey Tarasov , with whom she had two children: son Nikita and daughter Anna [5] . Tarasov died in 2009 during the bombing of the Nevsky Express train , in connection with which Freundlich refused to celebrate his 75th anniversary [35] . Grandson Nikita is studying at the Moscow Art Theater School [36] .

On June 28, 2019, Freindlich became a great-grandmother: Anna Tarasova (as Myshinskaya’s husband) gave birth to her first child. [37]

Freundlich repeatedly stated that she was friendly with Russian President Vladimir Putin . In 2009, they launched the tanker Cyril Lavrov together, and three years later, the actress appeared in Putin’s election campaign roll, which immediately caused widespread public outcry and disapproval of the opposition [36] [38] .

In 2011, Freundlich underwent bowel surgery, which was associated with the effects of long-term smoking [39] . According to Freundlich, she began to smoke at 36, right after her mother died [8] .

Theater

Theater for me is like a continuation of childhood. Because it seems to me that the stage play is first of all such faith in the proposed circumstances equal to childhood. Because no one believes in the game and in the circumstances that he sets himself as children. After all, there is no stage embodiment without stage imagination. And the imagination of children is what few adults can boast of [40] .

Central to the life of Alice Freundlich is the theater, the ministry of which she began at 23 years old. Since childhood, watching the performances with the participation of his father, she knew that she would become an actress [41] .

Among modern theater directors, Freundlich likes Roman Viktyuk , with whom they worked on several performances [41] . An unforgettable impression on Alice as a spectator was made by the performances of George Tovstonogov “Idiot”, “ Tradesmen ” and “Barbaras” in the Bolshoi Drama, “And the Dawns Here are Quiet” by Yuri Lyubimov at the Taganka Theater , many performances by Mark Zakharov [42] , but the actress Richard III and the Caucasian Chalk Circle by Robert Sturua were truly stunned [42] .

Komissarzhevskaya Theater: 1957–1961

The very first role of Freundlich on the professional stage was the role of fourteen-year-old adolescent Gogi in the production of “The Man with the Briefcase” based on the play of the same name by Alexey Fayko [40] . Before Alice Brunovna, Maria Babanova played the same role in the Theater of Revolution [40] . According to the script, the boy constantly spoke French, and the actress did not know him at all (Freindlich taught English at school), and therefore she had to learn the necessary phrases [40] . It is noteworthy that Babanova herself “blessed” her with the role of Gogi , whom she encountered in the foyer of the theater [40] .

After being reincarnated as a boy, Freundlich herself said, there was “just a whole chain of different Ol, Mash, Ver, in general, a whole flock of girls, quite annoyingly similar to each other” [40] .

One of the performances where Alisa Brunovna played a minor role, by an evil coincidence, was “Born in Leningrad” directed by Ilya Olshvanger after the play by Olga Berggolts of the same name [11] . During the production Freundlich had to go through many events of the blockade of the city [11] . The spectators, as the actress Alexandra Delvin recalled, were solid blockade [11] . The premiere shows were held in dead silence, but at the end of the performance some were silent, some wept bitterly [11] .

Lensovet Theater: 1961-1983

Work in the Lensovet Theater was the most fruitful in the life of Alice Freundlich, and she herself was even called the “First Lady of the Theater” [6] . Her repertoire included Celia Peach from Brecht 's The Three-Ridge Opera , Juliet Capulet from Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet , and Katerina Ivanovna from Dostoevsky 's Crime and Punishment . The actress has served in the theater for exactly twenty-two seasons [40] .

In 1966, when Igor Vladimirov staged the “Threepenny Opera”, he considered Alisa Freindlich, exactly suitable for age, to play the role of the young Polly [43] . Despite this, Freundlich played the old Miss Celia Peach , who spoke in a hoarse, torn voice [43] .

The Little Boy from “The Kid and Carlson ”, favored by the all-union theater critics, stands out separately [40] . In an interview with the newspaper " Evening Krasnodar " Freundlich said that the role of the Kid was played by her in the same breath, and she still considers her the most attractive in her theatrical career [25] .

In 1973, the film “Alice Freundlich. Favorites ”, which is built as the actress’s memory of her roles in the Theater. Lensoveta - "Tanya", "Kid and Carlson, who lives on the roof," " Taming of the Shrew ," " Crime and Punishment ," "Warsaw Melody," etc.

BDT: 1983 - present

Back in 1979, Freundlich stated that she absolutely could not imagine herself in the BDT , without director Vladimirova [44] . Four years later, the actress still had to leave the Lensovet Theater and go to the BDT. In the 1990s, she was invited to the anniversary of the former place of work, where she spent the first half of the action in the hall, and at the end someone had pulled her onto the stage, which she cried, started kissing [45] .

The artistic director of the theater Georgiy Tovstonogov helped her to join the team [45] . At first, he offered the actress as a debut a small, very typical role in the farce opera “ Death of Tarelkin ”, which he was working on at the time, but then he realized that something more was needed [45] . The debut of Freundlich on the BDT stage took place in 1984 in the performance “Film Tale with One Intermission” by Alexander Volodin's “Blonde” [46] . For a long time, Tovstonogov could not find a “vigorous-active blonde” in his troupe and eventually offered the main role to Alice Freindlich [45] .

One of Alice Freundlich’s largest and most memorable works is Lady Milford in Schiller’s “ Insidiousness and Love ”, at the creation of which the actress first met the director Temur Chkheidze [45] .

Several remarkable events in the life of Alice Freindlich took place on the stage of the theater: she fulfilled her old dream, playing Lady Macbeth in the play based on the play by William Shakespeare , and teamed up with old friend Oleg Basilashvili and daughter Varvara Vladimirova in several productions, including “Summer of One” of the Year ”,“ Lessons of Tango and Love ”,“ Uncle's Dream ”and“ California Suite ” [4] .

Until now, the actress dreams of the role of Bulgakov's Margaret , but understands that the age is not the same, and “the novel is so multifaceted that very few people managed to achieve serious success even when it became possible to stage it in the theater” [47] . She also regrets that she played too little in the productions of Dostoevsky , who, according to her, is one of her favorite authors [47] .

In the theater season of 2016-2017. Alice Freindlich is engaged in five performances of the BDT, including the one in “Alice” by Andrei the Mighty [48] .

Criticism and recognition

Alisa Freindlich - mostly theater actress. To this day, when she is known throughout the entire space of the former Soviet Union, she was honored with all sorts of epithets: from “outstanding” to “great”, critics noted its subtlety, depth and mind [49] [50] . As of 2012, Freundlich has 16 national and state awards, as well as 5 orders. To such recognition, the actress walked for a long time, playing at first episodic roles in films and boys in theater productions.

The first mention of Alice Brunovna in the press is dated 1957 - the year when the actress from the institute graduated [51] . In the weekly “ Theater Leningrad ” T. Slavina noted that the image of Kochi in the play “Shine, the stars!” According to the play by I. Mikitenko was remembered by everyone who saw the play [51] . The actress succeeded, in the opinion of the critic, and the previous role - Gogh in “The Man with the Portfolio” A. Fayko . Both Kotya and Gogh are “persuasive characters, a warm singer, in which sincerity, temperament, gentle humor are captivating” [51] .

Freundlich became famous among the Leningrad theater-goers as early as the 1960s [42] . In the cinema, on the contrary, the actress was not long taken on major roles for one simple reason: ugly, as the “big bosses” believed [42] . A huge event was her appearance in the film “ The Adventures of a Dentist ”, where the plain woman turned into a beauty [42] . This phenomenon haunted her for another ten years: in the early 1970s, Freundlich played Aldons in “Dulcinea Toboska”, and at the end of the decade she reincarnated into Lyudmila Prokofyevna from “ Office Romance ” [42] .

Alice Freundlich’s role diploma was defined as “very characteristic ”, but, as critic E. Gorfunel notes, her character was always peculiar: the actress found “traces of fate” primarily in the speeches of her little heroes and adult heroines. Thus, in the play “ At the Bottom, ” Nastya’s provincial colloquialism marked her alienness in the doss-house, the broken Russian Charlotte in Cherry Orchard turned into a sign of rejection, and in the Warsaw Melody Freundlich’s Polish accent became a real melody. fate " [52] .

Turning to the BDT, Freundlich easily joined the team and found a common language with its leader, who, in his own words, almost from the first minute felt so “like they have been working together for thirty years” [33] . In the 1960s, Tatyana Doronina was shining on the stage of the theater, personifying the woman's luxury. Alice Freundlich, who “owned souls” [42], became her complement and in some way the opposite. Today Alisa Brunovna Freindlich is the first lady of the St. Petersburg scene who has not played in her entire long and fruitful career [42] .

Freundlich adore colleagues on the stage and the set. Mikhail Boyarsky called the actress her teacher, and Maria Lavrova , the daughter of a close friend of Freindlich Cyril Lavrov , admitted that Alisa Brunovna reminds her of Annie Girardot : the French actress was as refined as Freundlich [25] [53] .

Alisa Freindlich, of course, - one of the most prominent actresses in Russia. And an extremely honest, decent, intelligent person, which is now a little. At the same time she is not only a unique actress, but also a brilliant mother. She raised a wonderful daughter, Varya and I worked together, and this is really a wonderful person - it cannot be better. And what is Alice Brunovna on stage - the country knows without me. She works honestly and beautifully. Even plays a supporting role, as the main. The viewer feels and appreciates it. And when Alisa Freindlich’s name is on the poster, the hall is always full, no matter where we perform. She will be younger than all of us even after many years, no matter how she turns there [53] .
