Birth and first years of life

The mother of the future actress, Ksenia Fedorovna Freindlikh (nee Fedorova; died in 1971 ^[5] ), lived in Pskov in her youth, where she participated in amateur performances ^[6] . Soon, she moved to Leningrad , where she met German-born actor Bruno Freindlich (1909–2002) at dramatic courses of the Theater of Working Youth ^[6] . His mother was a German Charlotte Friedrichovna Seitz, father - Arthur I. Freindlich ^[5] . Both Zeits and Freindlikh finally moved to Russia from Germany in the 18th century , creating dynasties of glassblowers ^[5] . The great-great-great-grandfather of the mother’s actress was from Mecklenburg-Schwerin ^[7] .

Arthur Freindlich tried to continue the family business, but his career as a glass master did not take place - his second son, brother Bruno, had extremely weak lungs ^[5] . Soon he got a job at the Weiss shoe store, which then supplied the shoes to the Imperial Court ^[5] . Having worked there for a short time, he decided to start his own business: he bought the necessary equipment, rented a room near the Moika and ordered the sign “Freundlich's elegant shoes” ^[5] . His plans did not come true: in 1917, Arthur Freindlich died suddenly ^[5] .

December 8, 1934 , in Leningrad , in a house on St. Isaac's Square , a girl Alice was born ^[4] . As Freundlich later admitted, the mother wanted her daughter to have a different name - Natasha ^[8] . The father and the grandmother insisted on “Alice”, who declared that “Natalya Brunovna Freindlich” was a strange mess ^[8] . Shortly after the birth of the girl, the family moved into a communal apartment at 1/64, in Grivtsova Lane ^[4] , where the windows overlooked St. Isaac’s Cathedral , and the Bronze Horseman monument was located near the house ^[4] .

Even in childhood, Alice began to show artistic abilities ^[9] . At the age of three she came to graduation performances of the sister of the mother and her husband, who then graduated from the conservatory ^[9] . A few days after that, the girl sang melodies from the opera ^[9] and played the theater with herself, secretly putting adults on her mother's dresses ^[9] .

Shortly before the start of the war, Alice's parents broke up ^[10] . The father with the actors of his theater went on tour to Tashkent , and the girl remained to live with her mother ^[10] . Bruno Freindlich left Leningrad even before the Germans began to be evicted from Leningrad. According to the memoirs of Alice Freundlich, “grandmother, aunt, my cousins ​​and sisters — they all had to leave Leningrad” ^[9] ; “Dad's brother and his wife were arrested — much later we learned that they had been shot” ^[9] .

Great Patriotic War and Siege of Leningrad

In 1941, Alice went to the first class of school No. 239 (now the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239) ^[11] . The institution was located right in the center of the city - the area that was subjected to the most massive shelling ^[11] . A few days later, the blockade of Leningrad began ^[11] . Because of the difficult conditions of study as such, it was not: the teacher spoke not about the lesson, but about everything that was necessary for the blockade ^[11] . Later, Alisa Brunovna recalled:

Only a grandmother helped Alice survive in those times, or rather, her punctuality: she betrayed a very small part of the loaf of bread by the hour, and hid the rest ^[11] . The health of the girl and her mother was extremely weak and unstable not only physically, but also psychologically: a child with German roots felt terrible in the company of those who despised Germans ^[11] .

During the war, Ksenia Fedorovna worked as an accountant, and after it ended she moved with her daughter to Tallinn for three years ^[11] .

Later, in 2014, Alisa Freindlich played one of the main roles in the mini-series " Martha 's Line ", dedicated to the events of besieged Leningrad.

Post-war childhood and admission to college

In the capital of Estonia, Alisa studied in the third, fourth and fifth grades of secondary school ^[12] . She failed to finish her studies here - in 1948, she and her mother returned to Leningrad, where the girl returned to school No. 239 ^[12] . Bruno Freindlich returned to the city, bringing his new family with him - his wife and daughter Irina ^[6] . Ksenia Feodorovna was not against Alice’s meetings with her father, but his new spouse strongly opposed this ^[6] . And for many years Irina did not even know about the existence of her half-sister ^[6] .

At school number 239, Alice got into the theater group, which was led by Maria Prizhenan-Sokolova , a famous Soviet actress ^[4] . Maria Alexandrovna immediately liked the girl, she was able to see in her future "star" ^[12] . Alice spent all her free time at the teacher. It was Maria Alexandrovna who taught Freundlich the basics of acting ^[12] .

After graduating from school in 1953, Alice Freundlich already knew exactly what would become an actress, but could not decide which one: musical or dramatic ^[8] . The choice in favor of the second option was helped by the father, who dissuaded Alice from the operatic stage: “You're a crumb, but the texture is needed there” ^[8] , although the girl had a strong voice - high mezzo-soprano .

Soon Alice submitted documents to the Leningrad Theater Institute named after A.N. Ostrovsky ^[4] . Maria Prizvan-Sokolova and her husband Pavel Weisbrom helped her to enter , every evening they were expecting a girl at home ^[12] . Alice successfully passed the entrance exams, reading an excerpt from Nikolai Gogol 's poem Dead Souls and performing the song Do not scold me, dear. ^[12] Commission Freundlich liked the speech, and in 1953 Alice was accepted to the Boris Zona course ^[4] .

Graduation from the institute, first film roles and work in the Komissarzhevskaya Theater

Alisa Brunovna gratefully recalls her main teacher: “He let me out as a travesty and sharply character actress. But it never even occurred to him that I could play Juliet, that I could be entrusted with dramatic or lyrical-dramatic roles ” ^[13] .

In 1955, the girl performed episodic roles in the films “The Unfinished Tale ” and “ Talents and Fans ” ^[4] . At the same time, she first married her “student love”, one of her classmates, Vladimir Karasev ^[4] . The marriage did not last long - after the graduation from the institute, the couple broke up ^[4] .

Just before the release, Boris Zon presented his photo to Alice Brunovna, writing on the backside: “Sweet Alice! You do not dare to leave in vain any of your inclinations: to play, read, sing, dance. Only in this case you will be in time everywhere and will be happy ” ^[4] . He also signed a testimonial issued to the actress, summing up that Freundlich was recommended for leading work in drama theaters of regional and republican significance (see photo). The graduation performance “The Moral of Mrs. Dulskaya”, in which Freundlich played the main role, helped her get into the troupe of the Leningrad Drama Theater named after V. F. Komissarzhevskaya ^[6] . It was 1957 ^[12] .

Later Freundlich said: “I remember the work in the Komissarzhevskaya theater with great pleasure. I went there a good school, very good. I was not there premiers. There was a brilliant actress Emma Popova . And I got only those roles that Popova refused (or, as they say in the theater, who fell off Popova’s table). I was sobbing and worried that I couldn’t play Dorothy in E. Hemingway’s “Fifth Column” ^[14] . However, even before such roles, Alisa Brunovna began with the smallest - reincarnation into boys and hooligans ^[15] .

In total, while working in the theater, Freundlich played more than ten roles; her debut film dates back to this time - works in the films “ The City Lights Lights ” and “ The Tale of the Newlyweds ”. In the late 1950s, she met theater director Igor Vladimirov , who was invited to stage the play “Time to Love” at the VF Komissarzhevskaya Theater ^[5] . This meeting was remembered by Alice Brunovna, and in 1961, when Vladimirov headed the Leningrad Lensovet Academic Theater , she moved there ^[4] .

At the same time, Freundlich first met filmmaker Eldar Ryazanov , who was preparing for the shooting of the comedy Hussar Ballad ^[16] . This period became the peak of Alice Freindlich's theatrical career ^[6] . She became the first lady of the theater, as later wrote the newspaper, and played in almost all the performances of his repertoire ^[6] . One of the most famous and successful roles of that time was the Kid from “The Kid and Carlson ”. Both adults and children went to this performance with the same pleasure ^[18] .

In the cinema, meanwhile, Alisa Brunovna was almost not invited ^[6] . Separately, one can only mention one role of the 1960s - “ The adventures of a dentist ” (1965), the comedy of Elem Klimov , on the set of which Freundlich first encountered an actor Andrey Myagkov . Later they will play together in the “ Office Romance ” ^[4] . In 1967, Alice Brunovna again had to cross with Eldar Ryazanov, who then wrote the film story “Zigzag of Luck” ^[16] . The role of Alevtina was written specifically for Alice Freindlich ^[16] . At this time, the successful role of the pregnancy prevented the actress ^[16] .

Birth of the daughter and the first major film roles

The following year, Alisa Freindlich had a daughter, Barbara ^[5] . More than anyone else, the actress’s mother, Ksenia Fyodorovna, dreamed of the birth of a girl. ^[5] A month before the birth, Freundlich and his mother went to the WTO rest home in the village of Komarovo ^[5] . On the night of March 13, Alisa Brunovna started fighting, she reported this to her mother, and she called two “ambulances”: one to her daughter, the second to herself ^[5] . Ksenia Fyodorovna saw her granddaughter only after two months - as soon as she left the hospital ^[5] .

In 1971, Ksenia Fyodorovna was no more ^[5] . She was dying in front of a three-year-old granddaughter, suffering a sudden stroke ^[5] . Freundlich and Vladimirov were not at home; they went to a rehearsal ^[5] . At dinner, the woman suddenly fell ^[5] . The girl tried to regain her consciousness, but everything was useless ^[5] . Alisa Brunovna was also detained in the theater, there was no one to come to the aid of Ksenia Fedorovna ^[5] . Finally, when she returned home, Freindlich saw a terrible picture: the mother was lying on the floor, her own daughter was on her (Barbara cried so much that she fell asleep right on her grandmother), and scattered toys around ^[5] . A week later, Ksenia Fedorovna died without regaining consciousness ^[5] .

After this tragic accident, Freundlich continued to play in the theater and cinema ^[6] . In 1974, Anatoly Solonitsyn , Alice Brunovna’s colleague in the play “Warsaw Melody”, informed her that Andrei Tarkovsky himself would be present at the evening production ^[19] . After the performance Solonitsyn gave Freindlich a note from Tarkovsky, beginning with the words: “Mrs. Freindlich! ..” ^[19] . In it, the director wrote that he liked the performance, and he invites the actress to play a small role in his new film ^[19] . Without any hesitation, Freundlich agreed and continued to question Solonitsyn about the upcoming film, which he denied, stating that he himself did not know anything ^[19] . This time Alice Brunovna did not succeed in playing Tarkovsky - she simply could not come to the shooting ^[19] .

It is noteworthy that in that year Alice Freindlich again failed to play with Eldar Ryazanov in the new comedy “ Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath! " ^[16] . The background to this was as follows: Ryazanov and Emil Braginsky wrote the play of the same name and gave it to the Lensovet Theater with the prerequisite that the main role, Nadia Sheveleva , will be performed by the leading actress of the theater Alisa Freindlich ^[16] . After a while, the authors were invited to the premiere ^[16] . In a telephone conversation, Braginsky inquired about how Freundlich played in the production, to which he was answered: “And she doesn’t play at all in your play!” ^[16] After this, Ryazanov did not go to the premiere, and Freindlich no longer could, since Barbara Brylska had already been approved ^[16] .

Despite this, in 1974 three films appeared with the participation of Alice Freindlich: Yevgeny Hrynyuk 's melodrama “ Anna and Commander ” (which is called the first big project Freindlikh ^[4] ), Leonid Quinihidze ’s musical comedy “The Straw Hat ” and the historical drama of Elem Klimov “ Agony .

" Office Romance "

Having completed “The Irony of Fate”, Eldar Ryazanov asked himself the question: “What else to shoot next?” ^[16] Suddenly, he recalled the play “ Colleagues ”, written by him together with Braginsky six years ago ^[16] . At first, the play was successful in theaters: it was set up by 134 theaters in various cities of the USSR ^[16] . Ryazanov, thinking that the main role, Lyudmila Prokofyevna Kalugin , was to be performed by Alice Freundlich this time, sent her a play and an offer to play in his film ^[16] . Freundlich agreed, and the director proceeded to other aspects of the upcoming film. ^[16]

The key role in the film was to be the role of Kalugin ^[16] . The working title of the tape at first was even The Tale of the Leading Cinderella ^[16] . Noting that Freundlich in the theater is revealed more than in the cinema, Ryazanov began to think about how not to muffle her talent ^[16] . Freundlich herself, when asked whether it was insulting to her that she did not receive the prize, answered this way: “No, I was so used to some restrictions that were adopted by the Council of Deputies. It was even funny to me ” ^[8] .

For the role of Ludmila Kalugina Prokofievna Alisa Freindlich was recognized as the best actress of the year according to the magazine Soviet Screen . It is noteworthy that during the creation of the tape Alisa Brunovna showed not only acting skills, but also musical ones: two songs performed by her - “Nature has no bad weather” and “My soul does not have peace” - immediately became hits and repeatedly performed on the radio and television ^[4] .

In 2011, a tape remake appeared on the cinema screens - “ Office Romance. Our time ”, where the role of Lyudmila Kalugina was performed by a young actress Svetlana Khodchenkova ^[21] . Alisa Brunovna said that she didn’t watch the film and wouldn’t watch it, since she “is very difficult to accept and put up with some new discoveries in this story” ^[21] .

Divorce from husband and transition to BDT

After the triumph of The Office Romance, Alisa Brunovna played one of the best film roles, as critics noted ^[4] . This was Queen Anne in the film adaptation of the novel “The Three Musketeers ” by Alexander Dumas ^[4] . Freundlich said: “I have never seen a living queen, except on TV or in the press. Later, Alisa Brunovna said that with the coherence of the film crew, as in Tarkovsky, she faced only when she worked for Ryazanov ^[19] .

In 1981, several key events in the life of Alice Freundlich occurred ^[4] . The actress was awarded the title " People's Artist of the USSR ", and soon after that she broke up with her husband, Igor Vladimirov ^[4] . BDT and stagnation in cinema

Shortly before moving to the new theater, Alisa Freindlich met a young artist, Yuri Solovyov ^[4] , who at the time was an actor in the Lensovet theater. However, his main vocation was paintings - Nightingale was a self-taught artist ^[24] . Between them, the romance began quickly enough, and Freundlich married for the third time ^[24] .

In addition to working in the theater, the actress continued to play fruitfully in the multi-genre film: both in dramas (“ Dangerous age ”, “ Success ”) and melodramas (“ Weekdays and holidays of Seraphim Glukina ”, for the role in which Freindlich lost 7 kilograms ^{[ 25]} ) ^[6] . However, the most successful role of Freindlich in the cinema of the 1980s was the role of Kharita Ignatievna Ogudalova in the film adaptation of the play “The No-Wow ” by Alexander Ostrovsky . Freundlich happily agreed to the role of Ryazanov, but did not see the artistic council in the role of Ogudalova Alisa Freindlich ^[6] . In 1990, Alisa Brunovna divorced her third husband ^[26] . Freundlich herself explained the reason for the divorce as follows: “Since Yuri did not finish anything, he had a lot of problems, although he is a very talented person. And the fact that I always had everything in order, but he always had not in order, had a great effect on our relations. When we realized that there were more stresses than we were able to withstand the body, we very amicably parted ways ... " ^[4] . In 1992 and 1993, she returned to the role of Queen Anne in the continuation of the “Three Musketeers”, but the sequels did not have enough success ^[6] . Separately, we can note the role of the writer Irina Dmitrievna in Valery Todorovsky ’s film “ Moscow Nights ”, which brought Freindlich the first statuette of the “ Nika ” award for best supporting actress ^[6] .

Modern Period

In 1999, Igor Vladimirov, the second husband of Alisa Freindlich, died after a long illness, and three years later the father of the actress Bruno Arturovich was not ^{[27] [28]} .

In April 2019, Freundlich played the main role in the premiere of the play “Excitement” based on the play by Ivan Vyrypayev , which the playwright wrote specifically for the actress. With the new role, the artist celebrated the 35th anniversary of her work in the BDT ^[34] .

Alisa Freindlich married three times:

In the second marriage, March 13, 1968, daughter Barbara was born. Her nanny, also Barbara, who had to part with her alcoholism, was caring for her up to 10 years. Due to employment, parents could not pay much attention to the child, and Barbara was lagging behind in studies in most subjects. In childhood, Barbara was friends with her half-brother (Vladimirov’s son from Zinaida Sharko’s actress) Ivan ^[5] .

After his divorce from Freindlich, Vladimirov left his family apartment, while he himself lived in a hotel for some time ^[5] . When Varvara was a teenager, Alisa Brunovna married Yuri Nightingale ^[5] . After parting with him, Freundlich went to the “high chiefs” to ask for an apartment for him, because he had no place to live ^[5] . Shortly after breaking up with Freindlich, Nightingale married a colleague in the Lensovet Theater, Rimma Shibayeva, and moved first to Israel and then to Germany ^[24] .

Varvara graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography , starred in several full-length films. Currently ^{[ clarify ]} plays in two performances with his mother: “Summer of one year” and “Lessons of tango and love” ^[33] . Vladimirova was married to politician Sergey Tarasov , with whom she had two children: son Nikita and daughter Anna ^[5] . Komissarzhevskaya Theater: 1957–1961
