Story
Somewhere in a parallel world, there is the city of Monstropolis, which is inhabited by monsters. Monsters extract electricity for their city from the screams of human children. Therefore, the main enterprise of Monstropolis is a power plant and part-time factory of fear - "Monster Corporation". On it, with the help of special devices, monsters working with horror stories penetrate the human world through the doors of closets that lead to the rooms of children.
When the child screams, the sound of his scream enters a special portable balloon, from which energy is then extracted. James is the honored bullying leader . P. Sullivan , nicknamed "Sally", a hereditary scary who works with his assistant and friend Mike Wazowski [2] . The competition is the chameleon monster Randall Boggs, who is trying hard to push Sally from the first place. At the same time, the “Monster Corporation” has a strict rule - human children should not penetrate the monster world: firstly, they are considered toxic peddlers of deadly infection for monsters [3] , and secondly, their cries in the monster world can make giant power outages. At the same time, the head of the "Corporation" Henry Vodogor observes a frightening tendency: more and more children who are not afraid of monsters began to come across, because of which the threat of energy collapse begins to hang over Monstropolis.
One day after the next working day, Mike forgot to take documents to certain departments and asks Sally to help with this. Arriving at the workshop, Sally discovers that one of the doors remained in it (after the monster leaves the child’s room, his assistant sends the door to the warehouse). Thinking that one of the monsters is stuck in the room, Sally opens the door, but there is no one in the room. Closing the door, Sally discovers that a little girl has entered the workshop. Very frightened, Sally makes several unsuccessful attempts to return the girl to her room, after which she puts her in her bag, but Randall appears in the workshop. Frightened (since he already had physical contact with the girl), Sally hides, and Randall, who is very suspicious, sends the door to the warehouse and leaves. In desperation, Sally [4] runs to a restaurant, where Mike celebrates the birthday of his girlfriend Celia, but does not have time to tell him anything, as the girl gets out of her bag and makes a stir in the restaurant, and a couple, grabbing the girl, flees to the noise in order to not be captured by the Child Detection Agency (abbreviated as ANM).
At home, they first defend themselves against the girl (whom Sally later calls “Boo”), which ultimately leads her to tears, and from her crying in her apartment there is a power outage. Trying to calm her down, at some point they make her laugh, because of which a powerful charge of electricity passes through the entire area, which ultimately causes a circuit. While Mike makes plans for how to get rid of Boo quietly, Sally looks at the girl and realizes that she is not at all contagious, as is commonly believed. Moreover, he even allows her to go to bed in his bed, after which he sets out to Mike his plan - to smuggle Boo secretly into the factory and find the key to her door. In the drawings that Bu did before bedtime, Sally sees Randall, and concludes that it was Randall who then called her door from the warehouse. Having put on a homemade monster costume on Boo, friends come the next morning to the factory, but find that everything is teeming with the ANM staff there. Mike’s attempts to return Bu lead him to mistakenly fall into a trap arranged by Randall (this trap was prepared for Bu). In the secret room in the basement, Randall, finding whom he had caught, nevertheless, does not let Mike go, but shows him his car called “Screaming Squeezer” - a kind of cross between a vacuum cleaner, whose suction can energize several bottles at once with the energy of children's screams. This, according to Randall (the car was intended for Bu), should save the "Corporation" in anticipation of the impending energy crisis.
Sally frees Mike, and they are about to escape from the factory, but at the very last moment, Sally decides to tell the Water-Bear. However, it turns out that it was the Carnivore who decided to abduct the human child in order to prevent an energy crisis, and Randall volunteered to help him in this. Using a special door, he sends Sally and Mike to the Himalayas , where they are picked up by a friendly Yeti , who had once been expelled from Monstropolis. He tells them that there is a village nearby, and Sally is building makeshift sledges to get there, but Mike refuses to follow him because he is angry with Sally: he believes that their current situation is a direct result of the fact that Sally did not listen to his advice . Returning to the Monster Corporation, Sally frees Boo, where Randall and the Waterbear are going to use the Screamer, breaking it, and then Mike appears, reconciling with a friend and unwittingly helping him defeat Randall. Following the door of Bu and entering into a fight with Randall, friends get into a warehouse with a huge number of doors. Making Boo laugh, they thereby activate all the doors in the warehouse, turning them into portals. After a brief rush, they manage to defeat Randall and lock him in the human world by stuffing him into the door of the closet of a trailer where Randall is beaten with a shovel, mistaking him for an alligator. Then, the door of Boo, along with Sally and Mike, is intercepted by the ANM and Mr. Water-Foot. Mike deceives them, diverting attention to himself, and Sally and Boo quietly run away with the door, but at the last moment the Water-Foot sees them and rushes after them. Sally charges the door and puts the girl to bed. But the Water-Foot runs into the room and, trying to take Boo away, admits that he "is ready to steal thousands of children, but will not let the company die." Suddenly, one of the walls rises, and the Aquarius with horror discovers that he was trapped - Sally lured him into an experimental simulator room, where terrified novices are being tested, and everything is recorded on camera. Mike in the wheelhouse, together with the ANM staff, exposes the Water-Bear, and he is arrested and taken to prison.
Then the ANM informs Sally and Mike that the head of the ANM, 001 wants to talk with them - they find the administrator Roses, who is always strict with Mike, who reports that they have long been tracking the Waterboot, and that the whole operation almost failed, because they accidentally intervened in the matter Sally and Mike intercepting Boo. She then says that Boo can be sent home, but on condition that her door be destroyed. Sally says goodbye to Boo, and her door is destroyed in the chopper. The future of the company after the arrest of her boss is in jeopardy, but Sally at some point recalls what happened when Boo laughed, not cried. After some time, he himself leads the company, replacing the fear department with the laugh department, since laughter brings 10 times more energy than a scream. But he still misses Boo. Suddenly, Mike shows a friend a surprise - he fixed Bu's door by gluing a lot of wood chips. The film ends with Sally walking into Boo's room and meeting a girl.
