The village stands on Lebedyansky highway on the part that goes towards Dankov .
Olkhovets has been known for documents since 1627 .
Presumably, the name is given for the alder bushes that grew here (at present, alder almost never occurs in the vicinity of Olkhovets).
In Olkhovets there is a dairy farm, a large pig complex. In the center of the village on the site of the blown up church stands a monument to those who died in World War II. The brick of the destroyed church went to the construction of a two-story school in Olkhovets, an embankment for the construction of a stone bridge over the Don and Lebedyansky District House of Culture.
Olkhov House of Culture and the library are located in the building of the Zemstvo school.
Olkhovets has an old cemetery . On the opposite (right) bank of the Don is the village of Tikhiy Don , with which Olkhovets is connected by a bridge .
Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Pervushin was born in the village.
