Debutant Show
Since the beginning of the XVIII century - one of the centers of the artistic life of Paris. An exhibition of debutants ( French Exposition de la Jeunesse ) was held on the square from the side of the New Bridge [2] . It is mentioned in the literary magazine of those years, Mercure de France . The exhibition was held on the day of the Body and Blood of Christ in the open. If it rained that day, then the exhibition was postponed to the next week. If it rained a week later, the exhibition was postponed until next year. Initially, the exhibition took place spontaneously, but gradually became a regular and expected event. Since 1722, the academicians of the Royal Academy became interested in the exhibition. Thanks to exhibitions at Dauphin Square, public recognition was received by Fragonard , Chardin , who offered the public his Scat canvas in 1728, and Nicola Lancre . Salon of debutants lasted until the French Revolution , when the revolutionary government banned the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.
