The Bay of the Academy is the Gulf of the Sea of Okhotsk in the Far East of Russia on the territory of the Khabarovsk Territory . The length is 110 km, the width at the entrance is 61 km, the depth is up to 45 m. In winter it freezes.

Shantar Islands are located in front of the entrance to the Academy Bay.
The Bay of the Academy itself is divided into the bays of Constantine , Nicholas and Ulban . The West Bank forms the Tugur Peninsula .
History
The bay received its name in honor of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences . He was named by the Russian traveler and geographer A. F. Middendorf during his expedition of 1842-1845 to Northern Siberia and the Far East [1] .
In 1849, the bay was surveyed by G. I. Nevelsky from the “ Baikal ” transport [2] .
