Division History

Formed on July 2, 1941 in the Krasnopresnensky district of Moscow , as the 8th Krasnopresnenskaya rifle division of the people's militia . On August 24, 1941 it was renamed the 8th Infantry Division.

In the army from August 4, 1941 to November 30, 1941.

By order of the commander of the Moscow Military District on July 9, 1941, all divisions of the militia were withdrawn from Moscow to the camps. Since July 10, 1941, the regiments of the division were stationed in the forest in the area of Nikolo-Uryupin and Buzlanov . At the end of July, the division was engaged in the construction of defensive lines of the Mozhaisk defense line . On August 4, 1941, she took up positions on the Rzhev - Vyazemsky line of defense, and on August 30, 1941, on positions equipped on the eastern bank of the Dnieper .

By October, in connection with the start of Operation Typhoon, it was relocated east of Yelny . She joined the battle on October 4, 1941. October 5, 1941 lost more than half of the personnel, and October 6 was cut off from the main forces.

Part of the surviving fighters replenished partisan units, part went to their own. In fact, as a regular military formation was destroyed on October 6-7, 1941.

November 30, 1941 officially disbanded.
