Castro Alves ( port. Castro Alves ) is a municipality in Brazil , part of the state of Bahia . A component of the mesoregion Agglomeration Salvador . Included in the economic and statistical microregion of Santo Antonio di Jesus . The population is 24,677 people in 2006 . It covers an area of 762.981 km². The population density is 32.3 people / km². Hometown of the great Brazilian poet Antonio di Castro Alvis , in whose honor he was renamed in 1900 (former name - Curralinho).
