Araraquara ( port. Araraquara ) is a municipality in Brazil , part of the state of São Paulo . A component of the mezoregion Ararakar . Included in the economic and statistical micro-region Araraquara . The population is 199,657 people for 2006 . It covers an area of ​​1,005,968 km². The population density is 198.5 persons / km².

Content

History

Initially, the region was inhabited by the Tupi-Guarani Indians. At the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century, Pedro José Neto ( port. Pedro José Neto ), a native of the Rio de Janeiro region, entrenched in these places and built a chapel dedicated to Saint Benedict . The city was founded on August 22, 1817 .

There are two possible origins of its name: their language is Tupi-Guarani or from the lingua-jaral-paulista . In both cases, the name comes from similar expressions meaning " macaw lair" [1] .

Geography

Climate: tropical. According to the Köppen classification , the climate is classified as Aw. Because of the hot climate and the spectacular sunsets that can be seen here, Araraquaru is called the “abode of the sun” ( port. Morada do Sol ) [2] .
