Interesting Facts

  • The car Ford Mustang, nicknamed "Eleanor" is indicated in the credits along with the rest of the actors.
  • The license plate of the first stolen car from the list (1971 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow - Terry) - HBH, these are the initials of GB Galicki .
  • Collision "Eleanor" with a pillar on the highway was not planned. The driver of the Cadillac , being cut off by Galitsky, was unable to orient and hit the Mustang, which caused him to turn around and the car tore out the pillar with the front left wing.
  • On some frames it is noticeable that the Eleanor has a sports three-spoke steering wheel instead of the original.
  • The Cadillacs , wrecked by a police car at the Moran Cadillac dealership, were bought by Toby only cheaply after they had acquired a non-salable condition.
  • A total of 93 cars were broken for 97 minutes of screen time.
  • Police officers, firefighters, doctors, passers-by were all real. Many did not even know that they were making a film, so the reaction to what was happening was quite real.
  • The final jump in the remake was made almost without the participation of stuntmen. The car was simply dispersed with a special apparatus to the desired speed. After landing, the car could not be restored. The final jump of the original film was shot from the 2nd take without using any extraneous devices. The Toby was at the wheel. The car, rising into the air by almost a dozen meters and flying 40, remained on track. During the landing, Galicki received an offset of 10 vertebrae and began to limp.
  • For filming, only one Ford Mustang was used (not in the Mach 1 modification) (unlike the remake). A safety cage and racing belts were installed on it. The 351 Windsor engine, with a capacity of 5.7 liters, was modified by Galitsky himself.
  • Currently, the car is in the same condition as after the shooting, is located at the widow of Toby - Denis Galicki. The car is still on track. The car is currently in the museum at The Petersen, Los Angeles.
  • The frame constantly says that the hero of Galitski stole a car in 1973 - in fact, the 1971 Mustang was shot in the film, on which the radiator grille from the 1973 model was installed.
  • In 2008, Denis Shakirian-Galicki won a copyright lawsuit against Carol Shelby for the name Eleanor, which was used by many car dealerships that created copies of the 1967 Shelby Mustang featured in the remake.
  • The official script for the film never existed. There were only a couple of sheets of handwritten text with a few dialogs. Galicki himself provided the majority of the machines for filming.
  • Using the scenes of the chase and accidents from this picture, in 1991, the film Big Trouble was shot.
