History

  • On September 8, 1940, the Military Council of the Moscow Military District decided to form a new 169th Fighter Aviation Regiment with deployment in the city ​​of Rzhev ;
  • since March 1941, 169 IAPs became part of the Air Force as a fully formed and staffed combat unit;
  • since June 23, 1941, the regiment took part in the battles of the Great Patriotic War ;
  • On March 18, 1943, the regiment was transformed into the 63rd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment;
  • On April 26, 1943, the commander of the 1st Guards Fighter Aviation Corps, Lieutenant General Aviation Beletsky handed the guards banner to the regiment commander;
  • On October 22, 1944, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council, the regiment for exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with the Nazi invaders during the breakthrough of the strongly fortified enemy defenses east of Riga and the manifestation of valor and courage was awarded the Order of Kutuzov, 3rd class . On November 10, the order was presented;
  • from 1945 to 1948, the regiment was part of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany ;
  • On September 28, 1948, the regiment relocated to the Soviet Union at the Smolensk airfield and became part of the 32 air defense fighter corps and 3 guards fighter aviation division;
  • On January 10, 1949, the regiment changed its name and was renamed the 641st Guards Order of Kutuzov, 3rd class, the fighter aviation regiment of air defense and became part of the 98th Guards Fighter Aviation Bryansk Red Banner Order of the Suvorov Division ;
  • since 1972, the regiment was stationed in the Far North :

from September 1972 on the island of Novaya Zemlya Rogachevo airport ; since 1993, on the Kola Peninsula, Afrikinda airdrome ; since 2002 on the Kola Peninsula of the Kilp-Yavr airdrome ;

  • in 1993, the regiment was renamed the 470th Guards Vilensky Order of Kutuzov Fighter Aviation Regiment;
  • In 2001, the regiment was disbanded. All regalia of the regiment were transferred to the 941st Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Kola Air Defense Forces. Renamed the 9th Guards Vilensky Order of Kutuzov Fighter Aviation Regiment;
  • in 2009, a decision was made to disband the 9th Guards Vilnius Order of Kutuzov Fighter Aviation Regiment.

Armament

From the end of 1942 - La-5 , from 1944 - La-7 . September 1, 1948 the regiment received the Yak-15 aircraft. Since 1950, the MiG-15 , in March 1953 - re-equipment on the MiG-17 . From 1957 to 1962, the MiG-19 squadron was part of the regiment. In 1964, the regiment mastered the Yak-28P . Since 1987, the regiment has always flown on the Su-27 .
