Alessandro Rossi ( Italian: Alessandro Rossi ; November 21, 1819 - February 28, 1898 ) - Italian businessman and politician . He was a senator and made a great contribution to the country's economy through reforms in the textile industry .
Having received a wool processing factory from his father in 1845, Rossi, by applying the most modern technologies at that time, made it one of the main places in Italian industry. He is also known for building housing for his workers, improving their working conditions, and even erecting a monument to the worker.
New Work Area
As the expanding factory demanded more and more workers , Rossi decided to build a residential area for the workers. The area was designed in the southwest of Schio and covers an area of more than 152,000 square meters.
Initially, the design was entrusted to the architect Karegaro Negrin, who sought to design the area surrounded by greenery, with roads and avenues. In fact, a more practical plan has been adopted.
The apartments were divided into four classes. First and second class apartments were intended for managers and engineers , and are located mainly on the main street. Instead of the third and fourth class houses were intended for workers and were located in the inner part of the district.
In addition to residential buildings, infrastructure facilities such as schools , saunas , laundry and a shelter were also built. The maximum number of inhabitants in the district was in 1890, 1543 people and more than 200 houses. During the XX century, numerous reconstructions and extensions of many houses of the district were carried out, but since there was no exact plan and regulatory specifications governing these works, the architectural plan of the district was violated. In 1990, a restructuring plan was adopted to restore the exact appearance of the architectural ensemble and thus preserve this important historical zone.
