Story
The US CIA Secret Department launches the Grazer secret military satellite, which has weapons of great destructive power, into orbit. Its main developer, the brilliant psychopath Travis Dane, is considered dead (as it turned out later, he was alive, and he simply staged his suicide). Two employees of this department under the guise of ordinary passengers go on vacation by train from Denver to Los Angeles through the Rocky Mountains . Due to the mountainous terrain, a significant part of the path passes in the zone of unstable communication (“dark territory”).
Incidentally, the same train rides Casey Rybek with her niece Sarah to visit the grave of her brother James, the girl’s father. Casey is a former Special Forces Specialist in Counter-Terrorism Operations, now the chef of a Denver restaurant.
Some time after departure, the train is stopped and captured by well-trained terrorists. They are led by Dane and Marcus Penn - a former military man, and now the leader of the mercenaries. By brutally killing everyone who tries to resist, the terrorists drive all the passengers, including Sarah, into tail cars. In one of the freed cars, the terrorists are deploying equipment loaded on the train during the capture. Terrorists capture CIA officers, who are taken to Dane and forced to issue access codes to the satellite control system, after which they are killed by dropping from a train. Now, with the help of a satellite, Dane can destroy any object on Earth, and sells its "services" to international terrorists for a billion dollars. As a demonstration of his capabilities, Dane destroys a chemical plant in China.
The CIA leadership understands that the satellite control is intercepted, and that Dane is behind it, but does not know where it is located, and how to regain the satellite. The head of the KNS, Admiral Bates, is called to headquarters. It was decided to shoot down the Grazer, but another satellite was destroyed instead. Dane openly contacts the CIA and boasts that he is still smarter than all of them. Dane announces his plans to destroy Washington and the creation of false targets - numerous ghost companions.
Meanwhile, Casey, who managed to avoid a common fate, is witnessing many of these events. He begins to decisively destroy the terrorists one by one, in which the other survivor, the porter Bobby Sachs, helps him as much as he can. Despite spoiled communications, Casey manages to assemble a device for transmitting faxes to her restaurant from the available means with a message to Admiral Bates.
Terrorists understand that someone on the train is trying to resist them, and organize a re-check of the cars. They engage in battle with Casey, and calm down when he, shot down, falls and disappears from view (however, he does not die under the wheels). However, Penn manages to figure out that they are opposed by Casey Raibek himself, whom he knows very well and which cannot be underestimated. Realizing that he was not traveling alone, Penn takes Sarah hostage.
Admiral Bates, having received from Casey a message about the whereabouts of Dane, makes a difficult decision to destroy the hostage train in order to save Washington. Stealth is directed against the train, but Dein manages to knock them down with his companion. At the CIA headquarters, they are trying to calculate and drop those false satellites from which they cannot be hit from Washington in the indicated period, but there is too little time for analysis. Of the remaining 8 satellites, one is randomly selected, destroyed - the choice was unsuccessful, but there is no time for a second strike.
After the attack on Washington, the terrorists plan to destroy the train, pushing it against the oil train, and to evacuate by helicopter themselves. Casey and Bobby manage to defeat the hostage-keeping terrorists and unhook their tail cars. Casey goes to rescue Sarah, and Bobby grabs the helicopter in time. In a one-on-one decisive battle that ended in the kitchen, Casey defeats Penn, then frees her niece and shoots Dane's laptop. As a result, control of the satellite returns to the CIA, and they were finally able to give the command for self-liquidation. Washington is saved.
Before the collision of two trains on the bridge, Sarah, Casey and even Dane manage to get on the helicopter ramp and escape, but Casey does not let Dane inside the helicopter, and the criminal falls and burns in the flame of the explosion created by him. Casey then makes a call to the CIA and announces the release of the hostages.
In the finals, Sarah and Casey stand at the tombstone of James Ryback. Sarah lays flowers on her father’s grave.
