Story

The picture unfolds in an anti-utopian future, the world's population is concentrated in several large megacities - Mega-cities, where all justice is administered by armed judges who themselves are looking for criminals, investigate their cases and on the spot pass a sentence that cannot be appealed. Judges themselves execute the death sentences on the spot.

Joseph Dredd is the best Mega-City Judge who terrifies criminals. He is a victim of the conspiracy of one of the supreme judges Griffin and criminal Rico. The famous journalist was shot from a Dredd's pistol, which can only be used by the owner of his DNA, which seems to exclude Joseph's innocence. Dreddus faces the death penalty, but Griffin persuades Dredd's patron, Chief Justice Fargo, to resign. According to the law, Fargo voices his last wish, and the death penalty of Dredd is replaced by life imprisonment. Fargo, like the other judges before him, takes arms and leaves the city to bring justice there.

The plane delivering prisoners to the colony was shot down by a family of cannibalistic bandits in the desert. The surviving Dredd enters the battle with the bandits. Fargo suddenly comes to his aid, who tells Dredd about his origin. Dredd and Rico are clones created on the basis of DNA of the best Judges in an attempt to bring out the ideal Judge according to the Janus project. The infallible Dredd became the ideal of the judge, the personification of the Law, but Rico turned into the perfect criminal. Dredd and Fargo realize that only Rico could shoot a journalist because his DNA is identical to Dredd's. Fargo personally signed the death sentence for Rico, but it was not executed by the Griffin people. Together with a random companion, hacker Fergie, Dredd goes back to Mega City to expose Rico and Griffin and restore his good name.

Meanwhile, 96 judges die in various traps of Rico. Due to such great losses, Judge Griffin makes a proposal at the meeting of the Council of Supreme Judges to unblock the Janus program to create “ideal” clones of judges. The Council agrees, the judges unlock the Janus files, but Griffin and Rico destroy the entire Council. Rico destroys the ideal judge's DNA sample and puts his own DNA into the device. His personal robot tears off his arms and legs to the shocked treason Griffin.

Dredd, Fergie, and the young judge Hershey helping them, fight with Rico on top of the Statue of Liberty , and he dies. Heroes destroy his clones. The surviving judges offer Dredd the position of chief judge, but he replies: “I am a street judge. And I have accumulated work ”and goes to the streets of Mega City to bring law and order there.

According to Stephen de Sousse, the script was written with the expectation of a rating of PG-13 [6] . However, after filming, the film was rated NC-17, and the film had to be re-edited, cutting out some of the scenes in order to get at least a rating of R. However, the film company had an agreement with Burger King and a toy production company to advertise themed toys for the film, which had been sued to Disney, which did not fulfill its promise to release a film rated PG-13 [6] , and the studio was forced to cut out more violent scenes from the film.

Remote Scene

The scene where Dredd fights and shoots Judge’s clones during the culmination of the film was removed from the film. This scene was deleted for unknown reasons, but some commercials show parts of it as the clones wake up, and Dredd shoots one of them [7] . There was also a magazine article about this remote scene. Some other parts have also been carved.
