Story
The film takes place in New Zealand at the end of the 19th century . The main characters of the picture are two sisters. The older sister's name is Dorothea, she is an intelligent woman and has her own business. The younger sister, Rosa, is unreasonable and got in touch with some nasty type of Fraser. She loves him and is already expecting a child from him, and he draws her into drug use and wants to marry her only because of her rich inheritance.
Dorothea is looking for a way to save Rosa from Fraser, she is ready to spend a lot of money to pay off him. Dorothea finds some rude but handsome guy Lawrence Hayes. She offers him a deal. He must charm Rosa, marry her, and in this way get rid of Dreiser. Lawrence succeeds, and Dorothea generously rewards him with a large land allotment for the service rendered.
But Lawrence is not satisfied only with Rosa - he falls in love with Dorothea, but she does not reciprocate with him. The local politician William Poycer also claims to Dorothea - he needs money and hopes to improve his financial situation through marriage with a rich bride. But Dorothea does not need a politician, she is a lesbian, she loves her maid Anne Cooper, with whom she wants to continue her love relationship.
