From May 11, 2007 after the death of the head of Samoa, Malietoa Tanumafili II Susuga, and until July 30, 2009 , i.e. Prior to his resignation as president, he was the oldest acting head of state on the planet. [2]
Biography
For some time he worked as a school teacher, was a member of the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, and the chairman of the Senate. January 18, 1999 he became vice president of the country under President Ratu Camises Mara . After the military coup committed by Frank Mbainimarama and aimed at neutralizing the attempted nationalist coup organized by George Speight On July 13, 2000 he was elected President of the country by the Grand Council of Leaders , in 2006 re-elected for a second term. On December 5 of the same year, his powers were temporarily terminated due to a military coup , which again led the military to power, led by Frank Mbainimarama . On January 4, 2007, Mbainimarama reinstated Iloilo as president , after which he appointed Mbainimarama Prime Minister on January 5 .
Iloilo had Parkinson's disease , he regularly underwent a medical examination in Australia .
On April 9, 2009, President Iloilo revoked the country's constitution and banned the activities of judges, announcing that he was going to form a transitional government to prepare for the 2014 elections. [3]
At the end of July 2009, Iloilo resigned as president. [four]
