Critic reviews
Lead American expert Roger Ebert (like most critics) did not even consider it necessary to leave a review of this film. Published reviews are negative.
- “The Last Tycoon is a boring movie. He made quite intelligent people who need to realize that the gem that they held in their hands, turned into pretentious zilch.
... realizing his (old) emotional baggage, it's hard to believe that because of this woman he will suffer so much. Each of their meetings is filled with hard looks and pseudo-philosophical conversations that only take time. There are a lot of fantastic actors in the film ... but none of them were given enough screen time so that De Niro could mourn another twenty minutes. ”AJ Hakari,“ The Last Tycoon ”//“ Classic Movie Guide ” [1] - “I do not know whose fault is more: Fitzgerald or Kazan, but if there were flaws in the novel, the film finally finished it off.
When Nicholson appears in the 40th minute, the action begins to increase, but late. De Niro understands this and starts drinking heavily. ”Clayton Trapp (independent critic)“ Diamond Review of 1176 films ” [2]
