General Information

Scheib is located approximately 40 km from the northern edge of the Rub al-Khali desert and is the main source of crude oil in Saudi Arabia . It is located 10 km south of the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates ), which is a straight line drawn in the desert. It runs 40 km south of the eastern part of Oasis Liva in Abu Dhabi.

Sheibe has residential buildings for more than 700 people, administrative offices, airstrip, a fire station, recreation areas, repair and service centers and power plants for production and distribution. 650 km of fiber-optic cable was installed connecting Scheiba to the main telecommunication system in Abkeyk .

Title

Climate

Sheibe has harsh weather conditions. Sandstorms occur regularly. Humidity is usually extremely low. The smell of hydrogen sulfide is often felt in the air. Presumably this is due to the high content of sulfur in the sand, which in some places is in contact with groundwater (before this area was completely under sea water).

History

Scheiba City originated during the development of the Scheiba deposit. It was founded by the state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco in the 90s of the XX century . Prior to this, only dirt roads were used in this isolated desert region, which were used by early geological prospecting groups, although the field itself was discovered in 1968 . All the necessary materials for the formation and construction of Sheiba were delivered by road from Dhahran , which is located 800 km. At the time of its foundation, the Sheiba oil field had an estimated reserve of more than 14 billion barrels of crude oil and 710 km³ of gas. Saudi Aramco launched the project in 1998 . The oil produced is classified as a high grade Arabian extra light, with a specific gravity of 42 degrees api and a sulfur content of less than 0.7%. The reservoir of oil lies at a depth of 1,494 meters and is 122 meters thick. The oil pipeline from the Sheiba field to Abkeyk has a length of 638 km, while the pipelines of the field itself total 735 km.

Demographics

The bulk of the population is visiting, working under the contract.

City Development

Presumably it will continue to be associated with the development of the infrastructure for the extraction, transportation and processing of hydrocarbons.

Presence of Russian companies

According to the materials of the press release of OAO Stroytransgaz : In March 2007, Stroytransgaz entered into a contract for the construction of the Sheiba-Abkeyk pipeline worth over $ 100 million. The customer of the project is Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company.

The project is carried out on the terms of the EPC contract .

Stroytransgaz must carry out a project to build an oil pipeline from the Scheiba oil field to the Abkeyk large oil refining center. The new pipeline will be laid in parallel with the existing SHBAB-1 pipeline, which will significantly increase the volume of oil transportation.

Construction work will be carried out in conditions of record high summer temperatures, quicksand and repeated dust storms.

The scope of work includes construction of a 217 km oil pipeline with a diameter of 30 ", installation of 21 pressure swing-out units on the existing SHBAB-1 oil pipeline. As a general contractor, Stroytransgaz must perform field design, supply equipment and materials, carry out construction work, test, pre-commission operation, to carry out drawings "as built" and to assist in the commissioning of the object in commissioning and commissioning.

The project is already at the implementation stage.

The project deadline is less than 18 months.

The tender for the construction of the pipeline was awarded to Stroytransgaz in March 2007; among the companies participating in tenders were such well-known foreign contractors as Saipem (Italy), Suedrohrbau (Netherlands), Tekfen (Turkey) and Techint (Argentina).

Construction of the Scheiba-Abkeyk pipeline is the first and largest project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, implemented by a Russian contractor.
