Story
The town of Verburg in Upper Bavaria in the twenties. The head of the train station, Xaver Bolviser ( Kurt Raab ), will marry the daughter of the owner of the brewery Hanni ( Elizabeth Trissenar ). Sexually dependent on her, he implicitly obeys all her orders and slavishly fulfills all desires. Apparent harmony is broken when Hanni makes lovers - first the former classmate of innkeeper Merkl ( Bernhard Helfrich ), and then the hairdresser Schafftaler ( Udo Kir ), whom she also uses for business purposes. Bolviser refuses to accept reality and even gives false testimony to protect his wife from the rumors of neighbors. When Hanni leaves the innkeeper and demands that he return the loaned money, he sues Bolviser, and he goes to jail for four years. After leaving prison, he finds shelter with a ferryman ( Gerhard Zwerenz ) and, when he suddenly dies, he performs his work in the end.
