It originates from the village of Kopylykha. It flows through the cities of Aleksandrov , Karabanovo and near the village of Balakirevo , as well as the village of Krasnaya Roscha (Vladimir Region) . Merging with the Molokcha River, it forms the Sherna River near the Belkovo railway station at an altitude of 143.6 m above sea level.

It has a right tributary - the Nyungu River, which flows into the Gray one and a half kilometers downstream from the Old Sloboda .

In the lower reaches, Gray is a rather narrow and winding river.
