Club career
Gheorghe Ogeraru is a graduate of Steaua football club. Ogararu is one of the few who managed to become a player in the main team by moving from the youth team of this club. He made his debut for Steaua in the Romanian championship at the age of 19, on November 28, 1998 in a match against Olimpia , which ended in a Steaua victory with a score of 3: 0. In his first two seasons for Steaua, Ogăraru was a substitute player and didn’t get into the main squad, having only 12 matches. Two years after the debut, Gheorghe was loaned to the Resita Club in the 2000/01 season, who played in the second Romanian division. In Resita, Gheorghe received a lot of playing time, having played 25 matches in a season and scored one goal.
Returning to Steaua, Ogăraru was again rented, but this time the Otelul club from the city of Galati . In Otelule in the 2001/02 season , Gheorghe played 20 matches and scored one goal, and his team was fifth in the championship in the season. After the end of the lease, Ogăraru returned to Steaua. In 2002, the former president of Otelul came to the post of general director of Steaua, in which he previously acted as Ogerara on loan. It was thanks to the new CEO, Mihai Stoika , that Gheorghe became the player of the main team. In the 2002/03 season, Ogăraru played 23 matches for Steaua, becoming the vice-champion of Romania. In the next season 2003/04 , Steaua repeated its last year’s success, becoming the silver medal winner of the Romanian championship. In the next two seasons, Ogăraru became the champion of Romania.
For Steaua, Gheorghe has played 30 matches in the UEFA Cup in eight years. His best UEFA Cup games took place in the 2004/05 season , when his club left the group stage, and even managed to beat Valencia (the former cup winner in the 2003/04 season), and in the 2005/06 season, when he played in the semifinals cup, but his club lost to Middlesbrough , in a dramatic match in England, which ended with a score of 4: 2
On June 7, 2006, in the match against Vaslui , Ogăraru played his last match for Steaua in the Romanian Championship, which ended with the defeat of Vaslui with a score 4: 0.
In May 2006, Ogăraru signed a five-year contract with Amsterdam Ajax [1] . The transfer amounted to $ 3.3 million, thus realized the second sale of a Romanian player for the price, after the sale of Gheorghe Haji to Real Madrid for $ 4.3 million.
Gheorghe’s debut for Ajax was held on August 13, 2006 in the Netherlands Super Cup match against PSV , in which Ogăraru played only the first half. Ajax won with a score of 3: 1, Mauro Rosales , Kenneth Pérez and Wesley Sneijder excelled in Ajax, and Phillip Koku scored for PSV. In the Netherlands Championship, Ogăraru made his debut on August 20, 2006 in a match against Valwijk , which ended with the victory of Ajax with a score of 5: 0. The second trophy won by Ogăraru with Ajax was the Netherlands Cup , in the final of which Ajax won the AZ penalty shoot-out.
November 15, 2006 Gheorghe visited his old teammates for Steaua, and wished good luck in the UEFA Champions League match against Dynamo Kyiv , which decided whether Steaua could take third place in the group giving the right to play in the UEFA Cup . In the end, “Steaua” took the third place in the group, and took place in the 1/16 finals of the UEFA Cup season 2006/07 where it lost to the Spanish “ Seville ” in the sum of two matches with the score 3: 0.
In 2007, in the match for the Dutch Super Cup, in which Ajax successfully defended last year's title, Ogăraru was injured and was replaced in 25 minutes. For two years, in Ajax, Gheorghe played 48 matches in the championship, won the Netherlands Cup as part of Amsterdam’s Ogeraru and won the Netherlands Super Cup twice in 2006 and 2007. On August 30, 2008, Gheorghe returned to his former Steaua club on loan.
In July 2009, Ogăraru returned to Ajax.
National Team
Ogăraru made his debut for the national team of Romania on March 26, 2005, in the match against the Netherlands , his team lost 2-0, after which the head coach of the national team Victor Pitsurka removed him from the team and said that George Ogăraru was not up to the level of the national team and that he moderately favors Ajax.
He was again called up to the national team on October 9, 2007 by Viktor Pitsurka , 2 years and 6 months after the match against the Netherlands, the most important thing was that he again had to play against the same team. Gheorghe said that the Dutch Urbi Emanuelson and Hedwiges Maduro who play for Ajax and were invited to the national team of the Netherlands, before the match with Romania they teased him and said that he would play poorly against them.
