Biography
Alexander Winterberger was born on August 14, 1834 in Weimar. He studied under the Weimar organist Johann Gotlob Töpfer , and then from Franz Liszt .
He is best known as the first performer of the two main organ works of Liszt - Fantasies and Fugues on the choir Ad nos, ad salutarem undam ( October 29, 1852 ) and Fantasies and Fugues on the BACH theme ( May 13, 1856 ). Later, these same compositions were widely performed in various cities of Germany, on tours in the Netherlands, etc. In addition, on August 31, 1856, Winterberger performed the organ part at the premiere of the Liszt Mass of Liszt during the inauguration of the Basilica of St. Adalbert in Esztergom (Gran) , conducted by the author [2 ] .
Later, Winterberger worked in Leipzig, taught, was a music columnist for the newspaper Leipziger Neuesten Nachrichten. He owns a number of songs (including those written by Heinrich Heine ), piano and organ compositions.
Alexander Winterberger died on September 23, 1914 in the city of Leipzig.
