Distribution

It grows in Vietnam , China , India , Thailand , Laos , Cambodia , the Philippines , Malaysia and Bangladesh [3] , cultivated in China, Vietnam and other countries of Southeast Asia [5] . In Europe, it is kept in botanical gardens and greenhouses [6] [7] .

Biological Description

This is a winding annual herb.

The leaves are tripartite.

The flowers are simple, yellow, different in shape.

Fruits have the shape of an ellipse , almost round, 10-12 cm in diameter, have small outgrowths in the form of papillae [8] . Seeds are large with an unpleasant odor, have the shape of a tortoise-shell, flat, round, with lobed edges.

Chemical Composition

Seeds contain a fatty oil rich in carotene, lycopene ; bitter glycoside momordicin; sapotoxin with high foam and hemolytic indices. The roots of the plant contain triterpene saponins , derivatives of oleanolic acid , used in the treatment of rheumatism .

Practical use

A very healthy oil is obtained from the red shell around the seed. 1 ml of hook oil contains 30 mg of carotene . This amount corresponds to 50,000 international units of vitamin A [3] .

Mokhordina Kokhinkhinskaya is widely used in oriental medicine. Hake oil has an effect similar to the action of medicines containing vitamin A. Oil treats wounds, burns and ulcers [4] . The consumption of oil enhances the body’s immunity , it is also used to treat children with developmental delays, it is prescribed for people with impaired vision, it also has a calming effect [9] . Seeds have anti-febrile, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects. They are used for peptic ulcer, as a diuretic, anti-inflammatory agent. For medicinal purposes, all other parts of the plant are also used. Hack leaves help treat skin abscesses and are used for snake and insect bites [3] . Mammordiki root is taken as an expectorant for bronchitis.

Hook is added to rice for the preparation of a vegetarian variety of Vietnamese New Year banght pie [6] .

Useful properties of hazelnut oil

Hack fruits
  • Haka oil contains a lot of beta-carotene : 2 times more than mackerel liver oil, 15 times more than carrots , and vitamin A is produced from it in the body [6] .
  • Hake oil also contains lycopene . It is a useful carotenoid that can prevent a heart attack [8] .
  • Haka oil contains (as α-tocopherol ) vitamin E , therefore, it is used for the manufacture of cosmetics.
  • Nut oil contains essential fatty acids - useful nutrients similar to vitamins and trace elements [8] .
