Sandman ( Latin Melándrium ) is a genus of plants in the Carnation family, currently included in the genus Smolevka ( Silene ).

In the latest edition of “Flora of Central Russia” by Maevsky (2014) [2], the genus is included in Silene , about this the Russian-language name “Sandman” is preserved as the third alternative for only one species - Silene pratensis ( Rafn ) Godr. - Meadow Salt , or White Salt , or Sandman [ Syn. Silene latifolia Poiret non Britt et Rendle , Silene alba Mill. EHL Krause nom.illeg., Melandrium album ( Mill. ) Garcke ].

Botanical DescriptionBiennial or perennial herbs.
The flowers are unisexual, collected in a diachronic panicle inflorescence . Calyx is tubular-bell-shaped or oblong-ovate with 5 teeth, 10 prominent veins in stamens and 20 in pistil flowers. Petals 5, with bilobar limb. Five - ovary ovary with numerous ovules. Columns 5.
Fruit - a box (ripe) at the base of a single-nail, multi-seeded, opens with 10 teeth, on the carpophor . Seeds on the back are convex.
