The game of Lino Ventura and Francoise Fabian was awarded at the XXI International Festival in San Sebastian prizes for the best performance of male and female roles. [2]

Story

Simon ( Lino Ventura ), along with his accomplice Charles ( Charles Gerard ), is preparing what he describes as “the first psychological robbery in the history of banditry” - the robbery of the jewelry store Van Cleef & Arpels in Cannes . In preparation for the operation, the gangster gets acquainted with the owner of a nearby antique shop Francoise ( Francoise Fabian ) and falls in love with her. The love story of the gangster Simon and the lovely hostess of the antique store and the story of the robbery unfold almost independently.

The criminal who robbed the jewelry store is set free on New Year's Eve, and the police hope he will lead to an accomplice who has hidden treasures.

Awards and criticism

The film is in many ways similar to other works of Claude Lelouch. [3] It is executed in a slightly outdated but charmingly nostalgic manner. [3] [1]

The film was highly appreciated by Jean-Pierre Melville , who called him a masterpiece and watched it three times in a row in order to express his judgment about him to Lelouch [4] .

The film received the Spanish St. George Award as "Best Foreign Film." [2]
