Baraka (film)

Baraka is a documentary by Ron Frike , whose genre can also be defined as a philosophical film-music essay [1] . In this film, Ron Fricke develops the visual technique that he used in his previous films Chronos ( 1985 ) and Sacred Site ( 1986 ), and even earlier - in “Goianiscazzi” (1983) by Godfrey Reggio , where Ron acted as a co-author and cameraman .

Ron Frike and Mark Magidson, together with a team of three people, visited 14 countries for 14 months of filming. The film was shot with a Todd-AO wide-format cinema system camera (65 mm), for which Ron designed a time-lapse recorder that allows you to shoot amazing shots with an accelerated time course.

The word " baraka " in Arabic , as well as languages ​​influenced by Arabic ( Swahili , Turkish , Urdu , Farsi ) means " blessing ." There is a similar meaning in the Jewish tradition ( Brahà - Heb. ברכה ). In the context of Sufi teachings, “baraka” means “breath of life”.

Description

In the footage, accompanied by ethnic music , shots of urban slums and beautiful landscapes, ritual dances of primitive tribes and human flows of the metropolis, ancient temples and concentration camps are adjacent.
