Undertaker in Love

Francesco Dellamorte ( Rupert Everett ) is the caretaker of the cemetery of a small Italian town. For some unknown reason, the dead in this cemetery, having lain for a week in a coffin, rise from the dead. Francesco has to send them back to the graves, which he does, blowing their heads off with a shot.

At one of the funerals, Francesco falls in love with a young widow ( Anna Falki ). She reciprocates with him, and soon they make love next to the grave of the widow's ex-husband. The husband rises from the grave, manages to bite the widow, and she falls into unconsciousness. Francesco expects the widow to come to life, and does not bury it, but after waiting, shoots her in the head. After this, the widow again rises from the grave, and Francesco realizes that the first time he shot a living woman.

In parallel, the love story of Nyaga, assistant Francesco, is developing. He falls in love with the daughter of the mayor of the city. Soon she has an accident, and she is buried in a cemetery. Nyagi takes her head from the grave, and they begin to live together in the basement (dancing, eating, having fun). One day, the mayor discovers them. The daughter’s head wants to marry Nyagi, but the mayor does not agree. The mayor and the head of the mayor’s daughter die as a result of the tragic denouement.

Death tells Francesco that the dead will cease to come to life if they kill the living with a headshot. He has a dream that he killed seven. In the morning it turns out that seven people really died. Francesco begins to meet women who look like a still beloved widow, they reject him. The killings continue, but despite direct evidence, Francesco is not arrested. He wants to give up everything and leave the city, but it turns out that it is impossible to leave the city. You can’t leave the city until you understand the difference between life and death ...
