Bullets over broadway

The events take place in New York in the 1920s . A young, budding playwright - David Shine is trying to organize the staging of his play “The God of Our Fathers” ( born God of Our Fathers ). He finds a sponsor , a famous New York mafia and gangster Nick Valenti, who is ready to finance the production, but on condition that his mistress Olivia Neil will be in the lead. The girl raves about the theater, but is mediocre and capricious.

David is forced to endure this circumstance - there were no other sponsors. The troupe is recruited and rehearsals begin. As soon as the play enters the stage, David discovers that his work is “raw” and is not suitable for staging. And here the unexpected character comes to the fore. Nick Valente put a bodyguard named Cheech on Olivia. Before that, a completely wordless rehearsal viewer suddenly begins to give very good advice. At first, David is skeptical. But, having overcome prejudice, David begins to understand that this semi-literate thug understands drama much better than him.

Cheech and David drink at the bar and become friends. And soon Cheech tells him how to redo the play. David is shocked, he understands that Cheech tells him the plot of the brilliant play, but he himself, due to lack of education, can only tell the plot in words. Within a few days, David completely rewrites the play and brings it to the theater. The actors are inspired by new ideas and very soon the performance is ready for the premiere, which is a huge success.

Fame comes to David, critics repeat the name of a new star of American drama, women in vain offer him their love, but he understands that this is someone else’s success. Cheech treats this completely calmly and is not jealous, although he is the true author of the masterpiece.

Now the last problem remains - Olivia, who spoils the brilliant production with her mediocre play. Cheech offers an unexpected solution - he kills a bored girl, for which he pays his life later.
