Story
On the eve of the grand parade ( Eng. ) Held every year on Thanksgiving by the Department of Macys on 34th Street (Man . ) Of Manhattan , the old man who was supposed to portray Santa Claus got drunk in the insole. His place in the cart of Santa was persuaded to take a passerby old man Chris Kringle [1] .
Kringle is a huge success with the kids and gets a job at the department store. However, when his boss demands that Chris hand in toys to the children, he becomes indignant. Instead, he sends the parents for the gifts their children need to the stores where they are available. The store management decides to fire the intractable old man, but changes his mind when it turns out that Chris’s honesty attracts crowds of new customers to Macy.
Gradually, it becomes clear that Chris Kringle considers himself a real Santa Claus. His sworn enemy, a full-time psychiatrist, adjusts his hospitalization in a mental hospital. Now the question of whether Chris Kringle is a true Santa Claus should be decided by the city court ...

Religious Subtext
The story of Chris Kringle echoes the story of the earthly life of Jesus Christ [2] . Just like Christ, he appears in the city on the eve of the holiday, criticizes bargaining, tries to breathe faith into miracles in all, turns out to be brought to justice, where he must prove that he is who he claims to be, not an impostor. The judge, who is to decide on the case, is directly compared to Pontius Pilate in the film. The religious background of Davis's story, blunted in the film, comes to the fore in some of his remakes.
Premiere
Darryl Zanuk , who oversaw the production of the film, had the idea of moving his premiere from the Christmas holidays to May - the month of maximum box office. In this regard, the campaign to promote the film did without mention of Christmas and Santa Claus. So, on the movie poster, Chris Kringle is shown in the background just like an old man hugging a girl. Despite some sentimentality of the picture, the reviews about it in the film press were extremely benevolent.
