Suhár (also Sohar [1] , Arabic. صحار ) is the administrative center of the northern part of the province of Al-Batin, the Sultanate of Oman , as well as the vilayet of the same name. Located 240 km northwest of the capital Muscat .

In the I century the port was called "Oman". At one time was the capital of the entire state.
Many [ who? ] believe that Sinbad the Sailor was born in Suhar. The city is famous for its history of navigation. Traditionally Suhar is a fishery center, here is a large fish market (“ bitches ”).

Attractions
Not far from Sohar are the ancient copper mines , Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain), the highest mountain in Oman. Not far from Sohar there are such historical cities as Ibri , Nakhl , Rustaq and Nazva .
The port in Sohar is managed by the Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC). The port was built in 2002 , located southeast of the Strait of Hormuz , on the coast of the Gulf of Oman . Port Sohara is not a free trade zone .
Sohar is known for facing the bay. The fort was founded in the 9th century by the Persians . As shown by archaeological excavations made in 1980 , the fort was rebuilt in the late XIII - early XIV centuries .
Next to the fort is the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, which occupies an area of 16,992 m², which can hold more than 2,000 worshipers at a time.
Climate
The climate in Sohar is warm in winter and hot in summer. Precipitations are rare. Humidity near the sea is high, especially from May to September. The most suitable time for tourism is from October to the end of March.
Industry
The basis of the city’s economy is a port in which several billion dollars have been invested. In addition, there is a heavy industry in Sohar, a refinery , an aluminum plant, a petrochemical plant, and others.
