Story
During a spiritualistic session in New York, Mary Wodehouse's medium is a vision of the town of Dunwich , in the cemetery of which local priest William Thomas commits suicide, after which the dead begin to rise from their graves. During the session, the medium dies. Another medium, Theresa, tells the police who arrived that Mary died of fear, and what she saw could be a key cause of some terrible events that will begin to occur around the world.
Reporter Peter Bell also arrives at the scene of the tragedy. He is not allowed into the building, but he arrives at the cemetery where Mary is buried. In the coffin, consciousness returns to her. Hearing her screams, Peter realizes that the girl did not die, but was in a state of lethargy . Having broken the coffin with a pickaxe, he rescues Mary. Taking her to Theresa, Peter learns the story of Danwich, mentioned in the ancient book of prophecies. Theresa clarifies that the death of the priest opened a portal to hell in Danwich, and if it is not closed in the next few days, then the world is waiting for the end of the world.
In Danwich itself, meanwhile things are going wrong: the weather deteriorates, mirrors burst in the houses, cracks appear on the walls, pets behave aggressively. To top it off, Thomas’s ghost begins to kill the inhabitants, while the Danvichs blame the crimes on the local outcast Bob, over whom one of them subsequently commits lynching, having drilled his head through the machine.
Peter and Mary meanwhile set off in search of Dunwich, and since the town is not marked on the maps, they decide to go randomly. The location of Dunwich can be found in the church visited on the road, where they also learn that Dunwich was built on the ruins of the damned city of witches and heretics called Salem. Arriving in the town, Peter and Mary go to the cemetery, where Mary confirms that this place appeared to her in a vision. There they meet the local psychologist Jerry and his patient artist Sandra, who were witnesses of supernatural things happening in Danwich. Soon, all four are experiencing another attack in the form of rain from the larvae, after which boy friend John calls his friend Jerry and reports that his sister Emily, who returned from the dead, killed his parents.
People come for John, then Jerry instructs Sandra to take the boy to his home. Arriving at his studio, Sandra dies right on the porch at the hands of a zombie . Fleeing along the street from the living dead, John stumbles upon Jerry, who passes him to the police, who declared a state of emergency in the city. Zombies, meanwhile, are beginning to openly attack the inhabitants of Dunwich.
At night, Jerry, Peter, and Mary return to the cemetery to find the grave of the priest. After descending into the Thomas' family crypt and finding the grave in it, Jerry and Peter open it and find that it is empty, but the burial wall is broken on the other side. Climbing inside, all three are in the catacombs under the cemetery, where they meet Sandra's zombie, who kills Peter, after which she herself is killed by Jerry. Moving on, Jerry and Mary find themselves surrounded by the dead, led by Thomas himself. Jerry pierces the priest with a wooden cross, after which he burns down along with the rest of the zombies.
In the morning, policemen arrive at the cemetery with John. Noticing Mary and Jerry getting out of the crypt, John joyfully runs towards them, however, when he sees a boy approaching them, Mary begins to scream in horror.

Filming
To shoot a scene when blood flows from the heroine’s eyes, use blunt needles for syringes that were glued to the lower eyelid of the actress and connected to the tubes hidden in the actress’s hair. Through these tubes, the assistant behind the scenes pumped blood. When shooting the scene of drilling the skull, a blunt drill model was used at the end, which was made from a kind of “soft” plastic. The drill bit from galvanic spraying shone. Inside the drill was empty, and, at the visible moment the drill entered the scalp, fake blood flowed from it. [2]
For the filming of the scene when a woman vomits with her own insides, a scar of freshly hammered lamb was used. The actress before each take had to shove it in her mouth and vomit. The scar dried every 10 minutes and had to be constantly placed in water before use. For close-up shots of the mouth, a dummy equipped with a pump was used. [3]
The film takes place in Danwich , a fictional city created by Howard Phillips Lovecraft .
The film frames depicting the action in Danwich are displayed in dark blue.
The film was shot in the city of Savannah , Georgia. [3]
Description The book of Enoch mentioned in the film has nothing to do with the plot of the film. The film also says that the book was written more than 4,000 years ago, in fact it is an Old Testament apocrypha , most researchers date it to the 2nd-3rd centuries. BC e.
