Pronunciation
A. A. Kovalev and G. Sh. Sharbatov write: “Arabic sonoric (l) is not tense; contiguity and detachment when it articulates smoothly. Arabic (l) is closest to Russian soft eh (as in the words “spruce”, “mile”), but with Russian soft or the tip of the tongue is farther from the teeth than with Arabic (l). In addition, unlike the Russian consonant, the Arabic consonant (l) does not have phonemic parallels on the basis of softness or hardness (cf. the Russian words “byl” and “was”) ” [1] .
“The letter“ Lam ”denotes the average consonant sound (l), similar to the Russian soft (l) in the words moth, linden, people, for. Arabic sound must be pronounced somewhat harder, but not nearly as firmly as in the Russian words "they say", "skis", "moon", "paw". " (Segal V.S. The initial course of the Arabic language, p. 26).
N. V. Yushmanov describes this sound as follows: “A medium shade (between e and l)” [2] .
B. Z. Khalidov, confirming the opinion of his colleagues, says that: “Arabic (l) is firmer than Russian, pronounced, for example, in the words“ fir ”,“ laziness ”, although generally speaking, it is nevertheless closer to Russian soft eh, than to a solid l.
The hardest version of this Arabic sound, close to the Russian solid l, is heard only in one word Allah ( God ), but the same sound l sounds soft, that is, almost like Russian, if the said word is preceded by any word with a finite (and ): BillLahi (by God).
